Surprise!

I am so excited to post this. We have had chickens for 7 years; always getting chicks from hatcheries, or on the occasion, adopting a random chicken that shows up at our home. We just lost a couple of our hens the other weekend and I am still reeling in from that devastation. One of the chickens that disappeared was our daughters favorite - the lovely American Game Hen bantam. We come home from an outing today, close the birds like any other night, to find our lost chicken as a new mother! Never in our years of owning birds have we hatched chicks, let alone, had a chicken hatch them completely on her own! I am so excited for her and for us to welcome two new 4th of July cuties to the family!!

No names yet. My daughter was already asleep when we found her, so I cannot wait for her to wake up tomorrow to this wonderful surprise! We will let her name them

She did! She started crying. She’s 6 and a total crazy chicken lady in the making, so she was completely beside herself that 1 - her chicken came back and 2 - she has her own babies!
