Cerise was taken aback, but managed to turn just enough to brace for his attack. She fell back, hitting the ground hard and feeling winded. Wheezing, Cerise managed to swipe her claws at Cyan, her expression that of determination against all odds.

Mystery was slashed across the face, desperately returning the attack and managing to slap his brother back a pace or two. Panting, Mystery stared at him with wide eyes.

"Scared?" Teal's voice reached his ears, its chilling, evil tone causing Mystery's fur to stand. Mystery glared at him, a snarl on his maw. He may have been scared, but he had the courage to fight on. There was too much depending on this.

He lunged, though Teal had seen that move coming and skidded aside in time to dodge him. Mystery felt a strike to his side that threw him off balance, sending him rolling to a stop. He felt battered and bruised, his legs weak and his mind spinning. Still, he climbed to his paws, shaking his head and looking to Teal.

"This is hopeless, you know," Teal said through a grin. "You're fighting a lost cause, see?" And he stepped aside for Mystery to see the lifeless body of Dixie lying there.

It was not the first time he had believed she was dead, but for Mystery, seeing her there... This was real. His legs shook, his strength leaving him. She was all he had, what gave him the passion to fight on. What was the point of going on without her..?

And then Mystery saw Cerise, fighting Cyan. Would she die? Her actions proved that that didn't matter to her, as long as the pack was safe. She was selfless, fighting for the greater good. Just then, it occurred to Mystery that though he had lost Dixie, he still had something to fight for.

Teal was completely unprepared for Mystery to bowl into him. The tables were turning. Mystery had a new fire in his heart, a weaker one, but one that told him he must go on. He had to try to take Teal down, or he would be just as guilty for giving up and letting the evil blue-eyed dog win.

Cyan towered over her, though he recoiled as her claws slashed his nose, slicing it open and inflicting pain. He glared down at her and placed a paw firmly on her throat. Glaring down into her eyes, cold, icy blue against brown, he felt something snap inside him. He looked at her and his face twisted as several expressions leaped onto it. Finally, he began to cry. "I don't have to be this way, Cerise!" he finally snarled, though his claws continued to sink into her flesh as he kept her pinned.

(Hope that's okay...)

Cerise coughed as his paw pressed on her throat, and she struggled against the choking feeling she felt. She looked up at him as he began to cry, her eyes filled with sympathy and kindness. "I know," she uttered past the pain he caused her. She was forgiving. She knew he had the advantage here, that he could decide to kill her at any moment, but this made no difference to her. She wanted him to know that she did see the good in him, that she believed in that good and that she felt it could return to him if he was given the chance. Whether she was to die here today or not, she hoped that he would remember this, that he could be forgiven and make a change in his life. She managed a weak smile, though she felt her eyelids fluttering a bit as it became harder and harder to breathe.

Quote: Ella smiled suddenly, surprised by his response. She could've sworn he didn't want them, but there he was saying he did! "Oh, Taz..." she exclaimed, bursting into happy sobs.

Taz smiled, his body shaking from his wagging tail. He licked her all over, eyes shining.

"No you don't!" Cyan howled in anger and sorrow, pressing his paw down harder as he said so. By now, he'd stopped crying and was instead snarling. He yanked his paw away from her throat like it was a hot iron and snapped, "You have no idea what it's like, to love someone and have that person hate you in return! You have no idea what it's like, to-to sleep in a den on the outskirts, o-or in the alleys! You know nothing of that!" he glared down at her in anger, though he made no further move to injure her.

(Agh! What happened to Mystery and Teal?! D: What happens next?!)

Cerise sighed with relief, sitting up and giving him a sympathetic look. "No, I don't know about that," she admitted, her brow furrowing. "But I know you, Cyan, and I know you are better than all of this." Her eyes were filled with sadness, but deeper within, they held caring and love. She held strong, her emotions stopping at that. She would not cry, not now.

The fighting continued, with Mystery gaining more and more on his brother. Teal knew he was losing his edge. His gaze clearly showed it. The piercing, cold eyes that he once had were now filled with the same fear that Mystery's green eyes once held. Teal was frightened at this point, for Mystery was... winning.

Mystery lashed out, his paw contacting the side of Teal's head and sending him to the ground. He looked so weak just then, looking up at Mystery in terror. He was going to die. Mystery was going to kill him.

But Mystery proved him wrong, a merciful look crossing his face. He smiled--that wretched green-eyed dog smiled!--which only furthered the extent of Teal's humiliation at that point.

"Teal," said Mystery, causing Teal to tense. "This is senseless."

"No!" Teal barked, his voice heavy with terror.

"We don't have to fight. You can be good."

"NO!"

"Please, Teal, I believe in you."

Teal gasped, and his eyes met with Mystery's. He shook his head slowly, but Mystery could see that he was seriously considering it. At last, Teal opened his maw and spoke just one word, faintly. "...Okay."

Ella smiled and gave him a cheerful lick on the face, then began tidying her nest up. "I love you, Taz... Oh, I love you so much..."

Cyan glared at her. "No... You don't, Cerise... And that's why you and I, we'll never understand each other. Because of what you did to me, I am now living a life of sorrows..." he said angrily, and yet sadly, as well. He trembled with rage and anger, and, finally, he leapt over the side of the junkheap and vanished.
