Cyan glared down at the dogs of Chroma Pack with a smirk on his face. As Beta, he would finally get the chance to repay them for all the merciless disrespect they'd shown him, especially when Cerise had demoted him... Cerise. His mind wandered to her and he briefly wondered if what he was doing was right. Small tears threatened to escape his eyes again as he thought of her. With an inward snarl, he pushed away the thoughts of her and stood proud, but not too proud, by Teal. He kept his pose dominant, but not Alpha-like, so as to let Teal know he meant no disrespect.

Celeste staggered to his feet and walked up beside Mystery. "Don't do this, bro," he pleaded. "Don't risk your life like this; you're simply throwing it away by doing so!" His heart throbbed in his chest and his muscles were taught with fear as he looked up at Teal's dark form, silhouetted by the sun. He shivered just seeing the dog, as though Teal was a ghost. His eyes rested on Steel's motionless form and another shudder passed through him.

Dixie padded up beside Mystery. "Okay... I can do that." she said softly. "Mystery, please, just promise me one thing." she said, her eyes glazed with tears and full of fear and worry.

Mystery looked to his paws briefly. "I have to, Celeste," he replied, his gaze hard and his heart pounding. "Because we can't let Teal take over. We can't lose our home to him." He hesitated before looking to Dixie, managing a weak smile as he did. "Anything," he replied, waiting for her to explain further.

Teal landed heavily on the ground a few paces away. "Tick-tock, Viridian. Don't keep me waiting now," he snarled in a mocking tone, his cold eyes dancing with glee. He would make Mystery suffer, but he would keep him alive long enough to witness as Dixie died, as he was confident Cyan would take care of for him...

Quote: Celeste nodded. Taking a firm and defensive stance, he set his jaw and looked Mystery in the eyes. "Then I'm staying to help," he said firmly, his gaze clearly stating that his mind was made. He knew that he'd likely die trying to help his friend, but he knew that it was worth it if it meant Mystery would come out triumphant.

Mystery's reply would remain unanswered, for Dixie was long gone by now. She so wanted to attack Teal, but instead she kept quiet as she slipped along the sides of the junkheap, up to the Alpha den. Her eyes locked on the large den, she climbed steadily, her pawsteps never faltering. Finally, she reached her destination and leaped into the den, right behind Cyan.

A smirk crossed the white dog's maw as he heard Dixie's heavy-footed entrance to the den, and he whirled around. His cold, emotionless blue eyes landed on hers and their gazes locked for a few brief seconds. He bared his teeth in a white-fanged grin and advanced on her. "Well, well, well... Going to try and play hero for Cerise?" he snickered.

Dixie hackled up and snarled, "No. In fact, I was just headed to tear your throat out for messing with my Alpha!" she howled, leaping at him with an enraged snarl, her eyes burning with hate.

Cyan evenly sidestepped this futile attack and Dixie went flying through the air. She let out a howl of terror as her paws gripped the platform where Teal had been standing and there she hung, powerless to do anything. While the jump may have been easy for the larger dogs, she knew, as a smaller dog, that her options were either jump and die, or hang on and die. They were very slim.

"Oh, but... Your Alpha is Teal... Were you defending him?" Cyan said. "In that case, you should be down there, fighting alongside him." he snickered. He clamped his jaws down on her scruff and towed her back up onto the platform.

Dixie stared into his cold blue eyes and realized something: that he was out for revenge. She could see it in his eyes. She shook away her piteous thoughts and narrowed her eyes, her fangs bared in a snarl. "My Alpha is Cerise, and always will be!" she howled, leaping for Cyan's scruff.

Cyan snarled and, again, sidestepped her slowly timed attack. "You're too easy an opponent!" he jeered. "I'd like to fight someone a little more challenging!" he added, before snapping his jaws shut on her back.

Dixie cried out in pain at his attack and whirled around to dislodge him. "I'll show you how easy an opponent I am once we get onto the ground to fight!" she howled, snapping back at him.

Cyan lowered his head and barreled into her. Running full speed at her, he knocked her off the edge and onto the ground. Grinning at her as she fell, he leaped down after her, his white paws landing evenly in the dust.

Dixie landed on the ground. She wasn't dead! She climbed to her feet and looked around in surprise and saw Teal. Suddenly, a white blur slammed into her. With a yelp, she felt herself knocked to the ground. A pair of white jaws were locked around her throat. Cyan!

"Teal," Cyan barked to his Alpha, a triumphant grin on his maw as he did so. Dixie's blood was beginning to stain his white muzzle, and his expressionless blue eyes were filled with delight. Blood... At last!

Dixie's eyes met Mystery's and she looked at him with a sorrowful expression on her maw. She had failed him. "I'mth sorry, Mysthery!" she howled as she blood in her mouth mingled with her words. "I failthed you..." she concluded before laying her head on the ground, defeated, resigned to die.

Taz awoke, the warm morning light flooding into their den. He smiled, and took a look at Ella.
Ella yawned and smiled at Taz. "Morning," she chirped happily to him.

Taz smiled. "Morning, my love," he whispered, and licked her ear. His dark fur glowed.

Ella smiled and nipped his neck gently before crawling up out of the nest. "Taz," she said. She was ready to ask the question. It had been many sunrises since she'd become his mate, and now it was time to ask the question.

Mystery watched her go, his heart pounding in his chest. "Be safe," he uttered, before facing Teal. The brothers locked eyes and began to circle one another dramatically. "Teal, I don't want to fight you," Mystery stated.

Teal grinned. "I know. But now you have to, and I get the pleasure of ripping the life from your body," he replied, his gaze moving momentarily as he looked for an opening.

"It doesn't have to be this way," Mystery insisted, but he, too, watched Teal's body language, just waiting for the blue-eyed dog to attack.

Teal cackled, rolling his eyes back in glee. "Oh, but it does," he replied. He didn't need to speak any longer. He heard Dixie fall behind him, and knew Cyan would be there to finish the job soon.

His gaze leaving Teal's, Mystery looked past his brother in time to see Cyan latch on to Dixie's throat. "Dixie!" he gasped. And that was just the opening Teal was looking for. Before Mystery could react, Teal tackled him, and the two tumbled across the ground, sending the terrified Chroma pack dogs running.

Mystery was desperate to make sure Dixie was alright, but he had to focus or Teal would get the better of him. He snarled and kicked, throwing his brother off of him. Freed, he sprang to his feet and charged at the blue-eyed dog, who easily dodged him. Teal snapped at Mystery. Mystery snapped at Teal. And the brothers clashed, matched almost evenly in skill and strength.

Meanwhile, as she had been forgotten it seemed, Cerise gathered her strength and exited her den, looking down at the fighting that occurred. They were fighting, not for themselves, not for her, but for the sake of Chroma pack. And with that thought in her mind, she felt rejuvenated. She glanced off to the side, spotting Dixie and Cyan. Dixie needed help! Leaping down the side of the junk pile, Cerise barked loudly to get Cyan's attention. "Cyan, leave her be!" she cried, standing strong at the base of the junk pile.
