Quote: Mystery stifled a gasp, looking to her with concern. It was like she read his mind... Thinking quickly, he decided to tell Dixie what he had told himself when he had the same thought. Hesitantly, he put that thought to words. "Well... Steel was deceptive... I don't think a truck would pretend to kill a dog like he did," he said, though he didn't sound as certain as he hoped he would.

At this point, he was quite uncomfortable with the conversation. What if he let slip what he thought he saw those days ago on that patrol? He couldn't put Dixie and the pups in danger like that. Quickly, he stood, looking to Dixie with a furrowed brow. "Well, I've got to go. ...S-sentry duty," he lied, immediately hating himself for it.

Dixie... Oh, Dixie... He looked into his mate's eyes, his thoughts betrayed by his green gaze. He would take care of this, he silently promised. He would keep his family safe. "See you tonight," he finished, nuzzling her lovingly. And then he turned away from her and headed toward the opening in the junkyard fence.
Dixie nodded, though his uncertain tone made her a little uneasy about his explanation, though it did make perfect sense. She looked at him and her gaze was one trusting and loving, despite her skepticism. His sudden statement that he needed to go, that he had sentry duty, shocked her. His tone of voice, so nervous, almost scared, it was all so troubling. Then she remembered something and it hit her like cold water in the face: Scarlet had given them time off after taking Wren home!

"But... Scarlet gave you the day off. Why aren't you gonna stay home?" she asked, almost sounding sorrowed, as though she felt as if he didn't want to be around her.

Mystery paused, looking back at Dixie. His heart tore in two at her tone. But this was Teal--lying, manipulative, dangerous Teal--and he knew it was best that Dixie didn't know. "Cerise assigned me. I, uh... I didn't want to turn her down." He was lying too easily now--he really needed to leave. With a smile, his usual smile filled with warmth and love, he furrowed his brow at his mate. "Don't worry about it, I'll be fine." And before she could stop him again, he trotted briskly out of the junkyard and off toward the northern part of Chroma pack's territory.

There was a clatter from Saffron's den. The rescued she-dog had awakened. It was all blurry to her, though the stench of oil and asphalt hit her nose and made her remember where she was. The city, filled with wretched people and their pitfall ponds of no escape. She was trapped there! But looking around, she realized that she had been rescued from the pond and was now somewhere somewhat dimly lit. Her golden eyes fell on the form of another dog--Saffron, though she didn't know it--and scrambling backward until she hit the back wall of the den, she made a harsh squawking sound, apparently trying to appear threatening

Quote: Dixie looked at Mystery and her eyes held a gaze that depicted much sorrow and confusion. "But..." she said, though her voice trailed off as she watched him disappear, never turning back to glance at her again. Sighing, she curled up in the far corner of the den and heaved a deep sigh, the lump in her throat making it somewhat difficult to breath.

Saffron woke up and looked at the she-dog, whom had pressed herself against the back of the den and was now making a... What was that sounds she was making? The medical she-dog cocked her head, surprise written all over her face. Shaking that off, she offered a warm, welcoming smile. "Hey, it's okay," she crooned. "What's your name?" she added, looking the reddish female over.

The she-dog relaxed visibly. Though she was clearly still uncertain of Saffron, and maintained a sharp watch on the unfamiliar dog, she did step away from the wall a bit. Her gaze moved up and down Saffron's form as if sizing her up, and for the longest time she didn't speak. At last, she opened her maw, hesitantly speaking with the sentence structure of someone who perhaps was disoriented and confused. "Name... Wren," she replied almost shyly. She cleared her throat, obviously thinking hard about what to say next. "My name Wren," she corrected herself, blinking awkwardly. "Where am I?" It seemed with practice her speaking skills were improving, almost as if she was unused to speaking this language. She looked to Saffron strangely, her head tilted a bit, and she lurched jumpily any time she saw the medical dog move even in the slightest.

Saffron smiled warmly and quickly caught on, realizing that her patient, Wren, wasn't very familiar with normal speech. But, then again, Wren's speech was perhaps considered perfectly normal, where she came from, Saffron realized. "You are located in the city, in a den in a pack called Chroma Pack. You were hurt and I took you in to care for you. I am a medical dog. You are my patient." Saffron explained, trying to be as helpful as possible. Looking at the she-dog, she smiled again.

Meanwhile, Celeste had spotted Mystery and was loping up, a grin on his maw. "Hey, whassup?" he said with a chuckle. He wagged his tail and fell in stride by his companion, his dear friend.

(Okay, I am about finished planning the events in my plot. Ugh, it's awful, but I am gonna make it as fun as I can! So, yeah, stay tuned!)

(I am making their forms soon, but here's the first post!)

The crippled young she-dog's eyes slowly opened. They blinked once, twice, three times. Where was she? A dreadful, roaring sound eminated from her left side. It was a highway, but the she-dog didn't know that. She shakily rose to her feet, then fell and went tumbling down a slope, into a puddle of water from a recent rain. Shivering, the she-dog rose again and stumbled a few paces forwards, then sat down. The icy wind from the unexpected cold spell bit through her fur and she could feel its icy fangs sinking into her flesh.

She began to sob. She was lost! She didn't know where she was, let alone how she would find a safe path out of wherever it was she was in! Finally, she sat down and began to howl a lonesome howl.

Moments after her howl, she stopped and listened. The sound of... Laughter. Then it stopped. Not long after the laughter stopped, she heard footsteps approaching rapidly, coming from a large dog, judging by the strong vibrations in the ground as the dog approached. Then silence. Suddenly, whispers and hissing voices could be heard, right from in front of her.

"Who is she?" one asked.

"I dunno, but look at the gash on her leg..." another replied.

"Look at her eyes, so strange..."

"Guys, go get Saffron!" a more serious-sounding dog barked urgently. It was a girl, judging by the voice.

Saffron... Who was Saffron? The she-dog felt her legs buckle and she could hear the others scramble out of her way as she fell. Her chin hit the grassy ground with a dulled thud and her eyes closed again as she slipped into the depths of unconsciousness.

(Sorry to make her first appearance so much like Mystery's!

I just now realized the similarity! Her story will be different, though. I hope you don't mind...)

((You're fine! It's not really totally the same, if you reread Mystery's first appearance. :) ))

Wren listened carefully, though one word stuck in her mind The city... She was in the city... And she was lost! Suddenly looking around again, she became unresponsive to Saffron's words and instead charged her way out of the den. Her legs were shaky and didn't have much strength, but that didn't matter much to her that that moment. Standing just outside the den, she looked around quickly, then turned and began to climb up the junk pile, ignoring the strange looks she was getting from dogs that peered out of their dens in the pile.

She was reaching the top when a dog peered down at her from above. "What is going on?" asked Cerise from her den, looking with concern at the dog that climbed her way. Wren ignored her, though, and climbed past the Alpha to the very, very top of the junk pile. There, she finally stopped to look around.

Cerise stared up at her for a moment, then looked down toward the other dogs questioningly. Before Cerise could ask what in the world was happening, though, Wren propped herself up on her hind feet and emitted a loud, harsh squawk that was heard echoing off buildings in the distance after a few moments.

"What is going on?!" Cerise repeated, looking almost bewildered by the sound that this unfamiliar she-dog was making. It occurred to her that this was the she-dog a patrol had found and rescued the other day. Wasn't she in Saffron's care? "Saffron?" she called for the medical dog, sounding more confused than anything else.

(( Poor Saffron's gonna be dragged back and forth from the looks of it!))

((Staying tuned! I want to start my plans for Minty right before your plot, if it's the plot I think it is, so I'll get that going on our next time skip with the pups. ;) ))

Mystery, who was already on edge, jumped visibly when he heard Celeste's voice, though he relaxed when he saw who it was. "Oh, not much. Heading out for..." He hesitated. He wasn't sure he wanted anyone to know what he was really doing (well, except Jiyaken). "...sentry duty," he finished quickly. Smiling to his friend, he paused there, trying to seem normal. "So I'd better get going, huh? Sentry duty's a lonely job." He hoped that Celeste would take the hint, but not be offended. He really needed to do this alone...

((Please have Celeste move on--I have a post with Mystery trying to find Teal alone, and it may or may not have some surprising twists... ;) ))

(Okay, good! Thanks!

And, yeah, I reread Mystery's form. I still really love him. Did you notice that even without killing Dixie, Teal is nearly destroying Mystery's life?)

Saffron stood and watched in surprise as the she-dog, Wren, tore off, bolting from the den. "Hey, come back here, now!" she exclaimed loudly, starting a walk after her patient. Realizing that Wren was not, by any means, going to listen to her, she quickened her pace and tried to catch up with the dog, though Wren was far ahead by now.

Stopping at the base of the junkpile, she looked up. "Oh no," she murmured, starting up the pile after the she-dog. "Wren, please wait!" she yelped, her voice soft and soothing. "It's okay! No one's gonna hurt you!"

(I know! Man this looks bad for her!
