((I know, I couldn't think of anything else...

Oh, and I was just looking up puppy development for accuracy's sake. At one month, they are just getting the hang of walking, so I'm thinking maybe skip to 1 1/2 or 2 months instead?))
(Lol, it's fine! And, yeah, 2 months is fine. I remember bottle feeding my orphaned puppy, Sadie, and watching her grow up. At two months old, she was maybe as big as a my hand, which is only four inches long! She was a stillborn runt, but the vet was able to revive her.)

Days went by in the blink of an eye, and soon the pups were opening their eyes. Days turned to weeks gone by. The pups were walking already. Before Mystery had realized what had happened, the pups were walking and talking already, and starting to become independent from their parents. Mystery felt so proud when he watched his pups, finding their voices and their individuality. He had never believed his life could get better after he had proposed to Dixie, but now his life was at an all time high. He was as happy as a dog could be.

Well, except for during the early mornings.

That particular morning, Mystery was curled up next to Dixie, fast asleep, when he felt something land across his face. Tiny teeth latched onto his ear, tugging at it in an attempt to wake him up. "Daaad!" came an excited whisper.

Mystery's green eyes opened to meet a very similar gaze, and his eyes crossed as he looked to the pup that was practically laying across his muzzle. "Minty," Mystery said groggily, his gaze moving to the opening of the den. "The sun's not even up yet..."

Mint pushed off his face, causing him to briefly close his eyes, and scrambled to the ground, crouching playfully. "It's coming! I sawed it! C'mon, dad!"

Mystery sighed patiently, letting out a great yawn as he lifted his head from his paws. What was the big rush? he wondered, watching Minty prance around excitedly. And then it hit him. The pups--they were exactly two months old that day! He had promised them a surprise!

Now mostly awake, he sat up, nudging Dixie gently in the cheek. "The kids and I are going to visit Morado and Celeste, okay? You can stay here and rest if you want," he murmured to her. And then he looked to Raven and Jade, figuring they would be just as eager as Minty to get moving. "Let's wait a few more minutes so that the sun is really up." He gave Minty a knowing look, then smiled warmly to his pups.

Dixie yawned and looked at Mystery with her loving brown eyes. "Yes, dear, go ahead. I think I'm going to... Catch a few more minutes of... ressssst..." she said, her voice trailing off as she fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Raven was running around the den and yipping in excitement, her black tail carried high in the air as she ran. "Surprises, surprises!" she squealed as she ran. She bent her head around to look at Mystery as she ran and bumped into Jade. Falling on her rump and knocking the air out of her, she rubbed her head with a paw. "Owie, that hurt!" she wailed, nearly waking Dixie.

Jade had staggered backwards a few feet and was now looking at her in utter confusion. He laughed at her and play-bowed, knowing that she'd forget about her owie and join in his game. Wagging his little butt in the air, he yipped playfully.

Raven leaped to her feet, chased him around the den a few times, then ran and hid behind Mystery's legs. Looking up at him with big, brown eyes, she whispered, "Daddy, what are we doings to... today?" Her voice was still had a stammer and she hadn't yet learned the proper way of speaking, so her voice was still gurgly and babyish.

Jade had, by now, stopped running and was blinking his big, green eyes that had earned him his name, in confusion. Spotting Raven behind Mystery's legs, he sat down, now bored. Jade was, by far, the least developed and very few words did he ever speak. Dixie often wondered what would become of her not-so-bright child.

Mystery smiled warmly to Raven, crouching a bit to be closer to the same level as his daughter. "Well, we're going to go visit Morado and Celeste. They've got a surprise for you three over at the mines," he explained.

Minty, who had been momentarily distracted by a fly buzzing around the den, looked back to her father as he spoke of their plans. "What kinda sup... spr... supwise?" she said, wrinkling her nose a bit as she struggled to pronounce the word.

Mystery grinned. "If I told you, Minty, it wouldn't be a surprise," he said with a wink.

Taking that as a good enough answer, Minty, whose attention span was little more than that of a gnat, looked to Jade, crouching again. "I'mma get ya!" she yipped, bouncing at her brother, though she tripped and tumbled into him instead.

(I will reply later; I have to go, now... D': Check in often to see when I get back!)

Raven yipped in excitement and ran up to Minty. "It's surprise, silly!" she yelped in her high pitched puppy voice. Giggling and skipping, she ran away, back to Mystery. Stopping at his paws, she noticed Dixie, fast asleep in the corner of the den. Running up to her, she stood on her rear legs and planted her two front paws on Dixie's nose, which was bigger than the little pup's head. "Mom? Mo-om, get uuuuup! Daddy's taking us somewhere and you have to get up!" she whined.

Dixie felt the pup's paws on her nose and snorted softly, opening her large, brown eyes and blinking them. "Oh," was all she said before she stuffed her head under the rabbit skins in the nest and placed her paws over her head. She immediately felt little needle teeth sinking into her paws and she yanked her head back up in surprise. "Oh, Minty, just go play with your brothers and sisters," Dixie groaned, laying her head on her paws, almost as if to protect them from further attack. She looked at the pup and blinked again, the blurriness slowly melting away. "I'm Raven," the pup said with a laugh. "You're funny, mommy!"

Dixie nodded. "I know, I'm hilarious," she said dryly. Standing up and shaking off, she looked at Mystery. "Morning," she crooned softly, a smile forming on her maw.

Meanwhile, Jade had fallen over on his back at Minty's attack and was now rolling around, his rolly-polly belly exposed. A small cry from him and Dixie looked around in anxiety. Seeing Jade, she made a soft tsk-tsk sound and lifted him off the ground by his scruff. Putting him back on his paws, she smiled and sat down as he scampered off to play with his sisters. He was very underdeveloped and couldn't even pronounce words at his age. The most he could do would be to wail at the top of his lungs and make his own little sounds. She looked at him in confusion.

Shaking her head, she said, "Well, I want some breakfast. How 'bout you?" She directed the question at the end of her sentence to Mystery, looking at him with her soulful brown eyes.

((I didn't see that there was a response, sorry. ))

Mystery nuzzled Dixie lovingly. "Good morning," he replied, smiling. The sun's rays were beginning to peer over the buildings into the junkyard outside the den, and noting that with a sigh, Mystery nodded. "Breakfast sounds good to me. How about you guys?" he asked, crouching down at level with the pups.

"Spr... Sssspr... Sprize?" Minty was trying to copy Raven's correction, but it seemed too much of a challenge for her. Hearing her father, she bobbled over, leaping into his face so that she was laying over the top of his head. "Okay, daddy! Then we get the spur-prise?" She giggled as Mystery lifted his head up, causing her to slide down his back and to the floor. "Wee!"

"You sure do, Minty," he replied. "Alright, then, I'll go see what the pack has gathered so far today." Mystery, feeling hungry at the mention of food, nodded to Dixie and headed out of the den.

"Me too!" squeaked Minty, following him closely behind and batting at his tail as he walked.

((Today, the weather can't decide if it's going to be rainy or sunny, so I might randomly disappear if it gets too cloudy. ))
