Minty trotted into the den, looking around curiously as she did. Her eyes stopped on Wren for a long time, but she didn't say anything, moving on before Wren could complain. "So... What is it you do in here?" Mint asked carefully, turning to face Saffron again. She smiled hopefully, batting her eyes in a way that made it obvious that she was trying to seem innocent and angelic.

Wren tilted her head at the younger dog, though remained silent. She was not one to be sneaky, though at this point she was desperate, and already she was forming in her mind a way to slip out unnoticed if this young she-dog could just keep Saffron's attention. Wren did not stay in one spot for long. She was itching to get out and about and find her way home.

((Okay, found them. They're on page 421!

One by one, the Golden pack dogs began to show up. First came Karissa, who had brought Sonya along with her. Before Dana and Briar could show up, Swampson had sent Sonya off for a few things to help with Rowan's wounds. Finally, Maxine and Mort, the two that had been most critical of Rowan, showed up. They appeared sympathetic, but didn't say anything as they gathered with the others before their wounded Alpha.

"Yes, Rowan?" asked Karissa expectantly. As they waited for his response, Sonya showed up, and she and Swampson set to work on Rowan's wounds.

Rowan smiled weakly to his subjects. They were not just his followers but also his friends, his companions, his allies. Regardless of the skepticism of some, he vowed never to let another Jargoan get his newfound pack. "I just want to thank you... " Rowan said in a wheezing voice. "For being a part of my pack."

"Oh, it varies," Saffron replied, her attention fully focused on the pup. Padding gracefully over to the den entrance and sitting down at ease, as though forming a barricade, she glanced at Wren, then back to Minty. Suddenly, she smiled. "Do you want to learn how to be a young medical dog?" she asked warmly.

The dogs looked amongst one another uncertainly, though their expressions showed gratefulness when their gazes at last returned to their Alpha. "Of course," Briar said at last, and Dana silently agreed. There were murmurs of agreement amongst the others as well, though some had become distracted by Swampson and Sonya's work.

Having prepared a poultice, Swampson moved his attention to Rowan. "Ya ready? This might sting a bit, but I can get ya somethin' t'a help with the pain as well," he explained.

"No, that's fine," Rowan assured, though his eyes were still barely open and his voice was low and weakness was depicted in his every manner as he lay flat on his side, his body spread out on the ground.

Mint smiled almost sheepishly. "Maybe," she admitted. She was really only interested in trying things out and seeing what she liked most. So far, nothing had done the trick. Maybe medical dog work would do it? She was determined to find that out. "Is it hard?" she asked. She knew a lot of dogs relied on Saffron, almost as many as relied on Cerise. It was an important job, and that made it of more interest to Mint.

((Gotta go for a while. D: See ya!))

Quote: "Well, that depends on how you do it. For instance, if you do everything in an organized manner, it's fairly easy. But if you don't, it can be hard." Saffron replied. "And if you're wondering if treating the patients is hard, it does take some learning, but once you get used to it, it really isn't too bad."

(Aw. See ya!!)

Swampson hesitated, watching the Alpha's behavior. Whether he was treating for pain or not, something needed to be done for this weakness. He looked to his daughter. "Ya know what t'a get?" he asked.

Sonya, who had also been observing, looked to her father in time to lipread what he had said to her. Thinking it over, she gave him an uncertain look and replied, "...Burnet?"

"Good lass," Swampson said proudly. Sonya had come so far over the past months, likely out of necessity with the Jargoans on the loose and Swampson, himself, unable to do much because of his joints. "Go on," he urged, watching as Sonya quickly nodded and headed off. Then, he turned back to Rowan. A good meal would likely restore a lot of the dog's energy as well. "Some'un fetch this lad somethin' t'a eat," he ordered, giving Maxine a sharp look. She took the hint and headed off.

Meanwhile, Swampson at last got to work on Rowan's wounds, layering the poultice over the worst of them and using an old towel to dab away blood from the more minor nicks and cuts.

Minty weighed this in her mind, unable to stop herself from glancing at Wren again. With a jolt, though, she noticed that the she-dog was not where she expected to see her. In fact, Wren wasn't in the den anymore at all. Looking with alarm to Saffron, Minty stood there speechlessly.

Wren, meanwhile, had made a run for it, though she ran headlong into Mystery as he was on his way to the medical dog's den. "Whoa, whoa there, girl," Mystery said in surprise as the weaker she-dog practically bounced off of him and fell to the ground. He offered her a warm, welcoming smile as she climbed to her paws, though his smile faded a bit as she backed away with a look of concern in her eyes. "Hey, you're alright! Are you lost?" he asked, tilting his head.

Wren, however, was on a mission, and she would not be stopped by what she perceived as a beastly dark dog. She turned and ran for it, vanishing around the corner of a building. She skidded to a halt as the roaring of cars rang in her ears and the stench of burning oil stung in her nose. She was totally lost, but she knew what would help. Her eyes fell on a staircase that led much of the way up a tall building, and blindly she ran toward it, not paying attention to the fact that there was a road between her and it.

Mystery, not seeing any of this for the she-dog was out of sight, shrugged and moved on to the task at paw. Trotting over, he peered into the medical dog den, his eyes immediately falling on his daughter. Minty briefly met his gaze, then looked away, her tail tucked. "Hey, Saffron," Mystery greeted politely, offering the medical dog a smile before giving his disobedient daughter a stern look.

Quote: Rowan winced a few times as the medical dog laid on the poultice, and several times his breath escaped his maw in a hissing gasp as he felt the sting of the rough towel against the scrapes and nicks.

Saffron scrambled to her feet and, in the pandemonium that ensued, forgot to return his smile. Instead she bolted out of the den, her yellowish gold and white coat flying in every direction as she went. She rounded the corner of a building and scrambled after Wren. "No, stop!" she howled as a red truck rounded the corner and went careening towards Wren. The driver was looking down at a miniature glow box in his hand--a cellphone--and was oblivious to the two dogs in his path.
