I don't know about the rest of you, but I was relieved to find this post this morning. We've got a pretty nasty storm headed this way today--hail and all--and I'm in the middle of hatching! Thanks for the info!

I've never had an issue with outages. Had a 6 hour outage this year an got a 70+% hatch. I had a 23 hour outage last week an there hatching now on the webcam. I didnt do a thing to help them an my incubator is out side.

I have posted a couple of times about this in the past few days but I used a power inverter in my car plugged into the cigarette lighter 5-6 hours and it kept the incubator running on 2 occasions this week , I have lived here three years with no outages and then I set 39 eggs last Friday, and here come the storms. I came home from the store yesterday and the electricity was off and the incubator was down to 85 degrees so I plugged the inverter in and heated them back up Candled them today and I guess they are ok I saw a little movement in some either it was them moving or I shook the eggs, Hard to say but I think they are ok, Temp came back up and has been stable since. I am so happy I have the inverter. cheap insurance for the Mail order eggs I am trying to hatch.

After my power outage I went and got a generator. Last year when the power went out we didn't even have heat and this time I thought my eggs were goners and threw them out. There will not be a third time!!

4/21/2009 - Got home last night and had a notice that we would be without power today for 4 hours. I had 9 eggs set to hatch this Friday. I moved them out under 2 broody hens. Both hens have hatched before, I figure they will do it much better than me trying to keep the hatcher warm for 4 hours.

My other bator has 24 eggs in it, but they are only 48 hours along, so I think the temp swing hoefully will not cause a problem. If anything maybe a delay in the hatch date.
