Surviving Minnesota!

Thanks, sounds good.  He was going to have a job once he is trained. Herding obviously.  We planned to get some ducks and geese, but right now, I am thinking we will wait since he is most definitely NOT trustworthy to just herd them.  We'll see how it goes! Sigh...dogs...and I never understood why the city did not allow chickens in the past when they are hardly any work compared to dogs.
I would not allow herding of poultry. Unfortunately part of the herding comes nips. Birds can't take that. Sheep and cattle can.

Ok this is happening right now:
The ustream feed has revealed the first chick hatched in the classroom: Roger and Lucy have a baby chipmunk in the incubator.

Argh BYC won't let me upload her cute face.

Here it's working now.

Tell the parents "Grats' for me BC...

I would be leery of allowing a herding dog to herd poultry. Besides mine really do not need herding. Wherever I go they follow. If I am in the shed working on machinery, they are in the shed. If I go to the garden they go to the garden. I come out the door they come running to greet me.

And these are birds I do not hold, or pet, I feed them. They will do anything for a tasty morsel. even when they do not need it.

I have to relate a small story. I am going to see the Dr shortly. I will be confessing to being a "real Man".

I bought a table for my miter saw. It is a cool table on wheels that can roll anywhere I need it and has those nifty rollers on it for holding the boards level. I convinced Judy I need it. She has some trim work she thinks is high time that it gets done. I told her this would make it go faster and get done sooner. I am not so sure of that anymore.

I got a De Walt table from Runnings. It requires some set up. I do not like instructions and seldom read them. Who needs stinking instructions?

I opened the box and laid all the pieces out. The main table was tied down/shut with cable ties. I cut the ties and stood the table on it's edge. Then I tried to figure out how to open it so I could assemble it. I could not find a way to do this. Then I found a little lever, I pushed the lever. The table flew open. Hitting my ankle right on the ankle bone that sticks out. I went down like a lead balloon. The pain and tears were instantaneous. The pain....... I thought I broke my leg. I got up and could stand on it....I walked around and worked the pain out. BTW It still hurts...

I have a huge bruise on the ankle, it looks nasty....

After the incident I decided to "look" not read, but look, at the instructions. In big bold letters it says " DO NOT CUT THE CABLE TIES UNTIL THE TABLE IS ASSEMBLED OR INJURY COULD RESULT"

Why didn't they tell me that before I cut the ties?

BTW I am not going to the Dr over my episode of stupid, but I bet he will ask about it..

oh shoot Ralphie. It sucks when those things happen. I hope your ankle feels better.

My ustream channel is turned off. I was hoping to get more chick tv this morning! Maybe Dixie has something going on at the broody coop.

My hip hurts. Rain and cold are not friends. Aleve is on board.
Also still sneezing. The rain is actually just a drizzle which has left catkins full of pollen on the trees. Ah-chooo. I'm a mess. Lol

Time to make it to the bus stop. Let out the chickens.

Good morning (sigh). Yesterday morning I was fine. Took one dog to the vet and by the time I left (in the afternoon) my throat was sore. By dinner time it was a full-blown cold. I do not do 'not feeling well' gracefully. Took helpers to alleviate the congestion and soreness. Ugh. . . . (heading hanging down)

This year I am sectioning parts of my gardens with chicken wire to keep the chicks from eating the hostas and such. It doesn't look real pretty and it is working. Maybe I will have some plants survive this year.

Thats all for now folks.

Dixie's welsummer egg is chirping like crazy. It's a rounder egg. I hope that does not pose difficulty and according to recent article claims it turns out to be a pullet. There is no pip started yet that I can see. The other egg under her had poor candling results but she kept it. Today I candled and it looks dark....? Weird. Anyways. Am leaving with her for extra day or two then remove-- just in case.

Chick ustream is back up. Bogtown special is the only chick yet.
