Well the Millie Old English are a disappointment . 2 eggs in a month . Both infertile . The Seabright mix pullet is getting ready to lay . Sunny today . Should feel good .

ILoveLayers I would keep the old hens till the new ones start laying so u dont have to buy store eggs
!!! That and the young will learn from the old.![]()
That would be yours truly
Of course the kids have been asking if they can take one home but that obviously would be a bad idea
I'm excited to see what my mixes end up looking like.
I cant wait to see how the black one from the white egg looks like!
I had two chicks hatch last night. Finally some Black Aussie crosses! One is ¾ Australorp and ¼ Welsummer and the other is ¾ Welsummer and ¼ Australorp. Shpuld have some good layers if they are pullets.
AND here is a question for Jerry. I am hatching eggs fom 2 different Welsummer hens. Both are bred by the same roo but they each produce different colored chicks? One hatches out with chipmunk stripes and the others are black with some white? Why would tye same crossing produce different chicks? Are some genes stronger?
Assuming it was a leghorn egg it would be a Dixie Rainbow over leghorn mix. Conrad is heavily barred (maybe double barred) and a mix of red, white, black, and green so who knows??
That is amazing for a classroom hatch. I can only imagine the conversations that are going on in the homes of those children. We are now 8 for 14 on the class room hatch! Technically 8 for 13 as one was a non-starter. There are 2 more with pips so maybe we will be up to 10! I am amazed! And here I was crossing my fingers for at least 1 to hatch!!!
And the white egg opened up with a completely black chick in it!! I have to wonder if it was a super light BA egg? It was white as a leghorn egg so who knows.

White is a recessive color so if both parents aren't white the baby won't be white.
