I've had poppies do great and then I've had them do poorly so soil, moisture and location.

Poppies can be fickle . I find from seed they like 50s for germinating no matter what the packet says . BC I see by the Morel map your season is over or about over . That wild plum I cut back is what you can do to yours and then I can bud graft some better ones on there for you .

My knee feels great today . Sorry I waited . Slept really well since the knee was not bothering me

. Chance of rain today . So not sure how much I can get done outside . Going fishing tomorrow morning and coming back Sunday evening .

OK here is a winner for you berry lovers . I managed to get half of a honeyberry yesterday . Bird sampled it . Only berry to stay on the new bushes . Very tasty . These are hardy to zone 2 I think . Bought them to take to the lake . May just keep them here and buy more next year for the lake .

The eggs are from my bantam EE pullet . A double yolk in there I think .

I got to meet Ralphie and Judy! I got a quick tour of the farm and saw all his beautiful birds. Judy just got home from work so it was a quick hello and had to run.
I got some eggs from them and the broody tucked them right in. She's happy now

After leaving there I went to my grandsons choir concert, it was very good the kids improve so much over the school year and it's obvious how much they enjoy it.

Daisy laid an egg right in front of me this morning on the lawn. Sand papery. Ouch.
Picked some mint for my MOJITOS for camping as well.

Good Morning Chickeners!  I have to greet you now and then move to the outdoors and work on coops and chickens and yard for the next two days. I hope, I plan on staying home and not leaving (I hope) and getting alot done. The DH leaves for Aitkin in just a short time - goodbye honey. That leaves my time wide open. Except I already have it planned.

I will be checking back from time-to-time. LOL

Oh on long lived chickens . I have seen 15 plus year old bantams . Grandma had a mixed flock that had white silkie , Golden Seabright and Millie Fleur in them . When she passed she had not hatched any in 15 years. She and I did those in her old kerosene incubator when I was in middle school .

Wow. I always said my hens can hang out in the bachelorette coop when their laying days have passed......eh......I'd have like a 1,000 out there if they lived that long.

Kerosene incubator....cool.

Beautiful eggs! I got my bluest egg ever yesterday. I almost wanted to keep it on my window sill.

I wish my chickens would get to laying more eggs! They hate the weather.

I finally had to turn my winter lights back on! my girls are slowed down so bad! they have been going to roost about 7pm everynight too while it is still light out but the coop is dark. I think I made a mistake turning the light timers off 2-3 weeks ago.

hopefully they pick back up quick as we had to turn away egg orders for the first time ever today! we are under 50% efficiency right now!

Here is my recipe: (Kids, close your eyes)

2 packets of stevia, 1/2 lime squeezed, 1 shot of Malibu Rum, I stem of mint leaves squeezed and twisted, stir a bit. Add Ice and top off with charge water. Stir again. Delish. enjoy on the deck on a hot summer day. Very light and refreshing.

Jerry: It was such a stutter step up here with the morels. Dry Dry Dry. Then when the moisture came it was very cold (freezing) Then when it warmed again, I was busy. Reports I've heard is that the numbers were low out in the woods. The set up wasn't there. I never found a one...but then I must be honest it's been a busier spring for me and I didn't look but the one time.

OK just back from getting my supply of insulin . I found a service berry tree growing near the drug store . Saw it in bloom earlier this year . Thought it looked odd for a wild plum . So i checked it today . It has a 8 inch trunk . Lived around here since 1980 . Never noticed it before . My 2 seedling service berry 1 came up from the root and nothing on the other . A downey and Alegahney species . Said to take our heat better . Service berry do not grow wild here but are sometimes used in landscaping .
