Surviving Minnesota!

Gone most of the day . Got a shot in the left knee today .Feels great now . Got work to do so time to quit fooling around waiting for the knee to mend . My poppies are still blooming orange double Oriental type . Very common around here . I have had other colors but they eventually die out . These orange ones just take care of themselves . People pass them around .

Is that what we, meaning my family, calls a tiger lilly? They grow wild around the area.

Sweet cherries turning . I had to out bird netting on them . Birds were starting to peck them . Below Oriental poppies .

. I cut one of the older wild ones back . These shoots can be bud grafted to a named tame type in July . I have better luck bud grafting plums .
sand plums a native . Prunus Agustifolia . Narrow leaf . I have 50 seedlings in that row . Black raspberries .

I'm trying to break two hens that have gone broody. I have them in my garage under a 40 watt light at the moment. I feel bad because I'm sure they're not too happy with the added heat and humidity outside. I don't have any better ideas myself. Wish I did.

I have broken two broodies by blocking off their favorite nest box and throwing them out of the coop so they can run around with the others, eventually they get that they can't be in the coop so they can run around outside while still being broody. Eventually they stop. It is kinda hard when other chickens want to lay eggs tho.

I love it! I wish I had those skills. I have a thing for the cafe racer style bikes. I was just telling DH how my next bike will be a Triumph or *clears throat* a Norton.

My hubby rides a 1800 VTX although he's bee eyeing up a new Victory. I have Honda Shadow 750, but it's been ripped apart, painted, and modified. Last summer, I finally got the Cobra pipes I've been drooling over for years. Unfortunately, I'm too pregnant to ride at the moment. I should be able to get some Fall runs in after baby comes.

Yup, I'll walk around to his house later today and get some close-ups. You can pick me up at the Anoka county jail anytime after 5pm.

Congrats on the new hatches!

I've noticed a change as well. Yesterday I had to have a talk with them all. Also, my two best laying hens have gone to the dark side....a.k.a.......they're broody.

Steal a pigeon or two while your at it then! Thanks!

Here are Poppies from a clump my sister gave me several years back. They haven't bloomed yet this year but they are close. Very vivid but a single layer of petals and maybe a tidge smaller than the flower below.

This is from a packet of seeds. I planted the seeds about 3 years ago. I got two flowers last year and this year there are about 30 buds out there. Double petals. Very very showy. Love Poppies.

Good Morning Chickeners! I have to greet you now and then move to the outdoors and work on coops and chickens and yard for the next two days. I hope, I plan on staying home and not leaving (I hope) and getting alot done. The DH leaves for Aitkin in just a short time - goodbye honey. That leaves my time wide open. Except I already have it planned.

I will be checking back from time-to-time. LOL

Ralphie - lilacs?

I have heard/read that Poppies are hardy spreaders and will take over. Have you found this to be true? I have a river bank they would be awesome on. That and Lilies of the Field. What say you about this rumor?

Ivie I've heard that they will grow like hades for some folk and not do a thing or die for others. I've heard that from my sister and from a super green thumb lady here in town. So location, soil I suppose make the difference. Mine are in full sun. They are neat while they are blooming, and while the foliage adds a different texture it will brown and look a little unsightly--only complaint.
