Surviving Minnesota!

Most of the family is here for the reunion and graduation. It's a small reunion, only about 20 of us.
A few odd characters, Bailey, she's a bit odd.
I really like Deerdra(I think that's how you spell it) and her fiance/boyfriend/husband, not really sure...

Nina and Nora got their horse rides, Bert was not happy whatsoever about them. I rode Sneaks twice today, on the second ride I saw an injured Canada in gosling. There were no other geese around, both pairs abandoned it.. Tomorrow I will go check on it and give it some food and make sure it can get to the creek.

Everyone enjoyed the chickens, especially Deerdra, since her and her companion just bought a few acres.

At about 10 this evening Sidney(11) Jay, Ruthie, and can't remember his name Sidneys brother(14 or 15)

Sounds like everyone is having laying issues lately, glad it is not just me. I wanted to go "No soy" on the feed, but the girls don't seem to want to eat it. had to go buy regular feed today, got a couple of soft shelled eggs from my cluck-cluck. she has never laid soft shelled eggs before.

stinks, cause that soy free feed cost a bundle.

I have not gotten my garden in yet either, I was hoping this weekend, we'll see what the weather holds.

Have a good one everybody!

Yesterday I went out for a ride across the creek like I have been to get Sneaks back in shape.
As I was crossing the creek I noticed a gosling that looked like it had a broken leg struggling up the trail.
So I looked up and down the creek bottoms looking for the 2 pairs of geese and the 15 other goslings, couldn't find them anywhere.
I rode sneaks up closer to it, and then preceded to ride around looking for the goslings.
I figured it was abandoned so I went back home and asked my dad. He said that I could get a bucket and try to catch it and put it in the barn today.

Today I went on my ride again, the gosling was worse and still no other goslings or geese.
I galloped back got my older sister, we crossed the creek, she held Sneaks while I looked for it.

She saw it hopping through the alfalfa, I walked up to it, and it was shaking and really cold, I'm guessing shock, so I put it in the bucket and we walked home.

Right now he's in the barn with food and water, we are going to leave him there cause he is still in shock.

I'm hoping to nurse him back to health with little human interaction, if he gets better I will let him go back to the creek, and hopefully he will be able to migrate this fall.
If not I may have a pet goose..

I planted some garden, bought way too many plants. I am tired of gardening already..... I only got my Cauliflower and Broccoli planted. The turkeys and Sussex helped me plant....This could be a losing proposition. The hens were sampling the goods as I was planting. I yelled enough them left...

I got a call from a woman up near Erli and BC, she was upset because one of her Speckled Sussex crowed... Wanted to trade me for a hen/pullet. I told her I do not even know what mine are and I cannot take back a bird. She claims I sold it as a pullet. I know better, everything is straight run except CLB"s and I even make mistakes on them. Oh well, such is the life of a major hatchery executive like myself.... She is not happy with me. Next year I should start selling sexed Ss at 3-4 times the price straight runs go for in case of errors. When they give me back the rooster, to trade for the hen I can just kill it and dump it in the garbage.....( ok that is snarky)

I stopped and Saw Ivie today. I met Tom Hanks, he has a tad of a attitude but not a bad one that I can see. I think he is perpetually horny and protective is all. I saw her Speckled Sussex they are beautiful, as is her CLB's. She has plants everywhere, her coops are terrific, I think I need to hire her as a slave here. At prevailing slave wages.

King George did a time out today, he chased Bert clear across the garden. That is too far for Bert to run. I am going to have to move Bert and King George's quarters further apart.

This morning Sven crossed into King George's area while the King was locked in his castle. The King was not happy, and Sven thought he was top dog for a bit.

The PC hen has taken the guinea eggs! 25 days and I should have some Guinea keets for myself. I will have to allow the PC to free range a little bit, that worries me. I will keep her in pens until the keets are full grown then let her free range just to show the keets where they live. I hope to not let her out over 10-14 days. Hopefully, only when I am here to watch her... darn Eagles! As soon as the guineas accept the keets, she goes back in lock up.

Wow! I have worked soooo hard around here yesterday and today. The coop is clean and restructured. Phew! Did not think it stunk like it did. It was horrible. It went into the compost on the river bank. Chicks are happy and I added another roost. Love those little chickies.

Took my little dogs for a brief walk this evening. Saw my next-door neighbors and we had our over-the-fence type conversation. My neighbors are like family. Their 10 year old will go with me tomorrow when I go to Hudson, WI to see the built-to-scale size trains. The St. Croix Railroad is what it is called and it happens the last Sunday of each month during the summer between memorial and labor day from noon to 4. My 98 year old cousin made some of the trains. So my cousins (his children) and I are meeting to go tour the display. I figure a 10 year old boy would like that.

Busy week coming so I won't be on here too much. I think, at the current posting rate, I will be able to keep up. Be safe. Be healthy. Good night.
