Surviving Minnesota!

Does being on the thread early in the morning count if it's because you stayed up late? If so..... First one on the thread!

Sorry staying up like the young and foolish do does not count....If it did I could post at my night time potty break and win every time...( yeah, you have night time potty breaks in your future too).....

There was a time I considered I was being up early when I got home at 5am.... I do think we need some rules for first post of the day...

Maybe it has to be after 4am or so and only after having slept in a bed......

Morning all! And happy Memorial Day!

I've dropped off the radar for several days while we prep our house in town for sale. 4 days solid of painting, cleaning, and fixing. It's amazing what you never do for yourself but do for a potential buyer....

Also my broody should be hatching today! Fingers crossed!!

So I Love Layers - how is the gosling doing?

Cluckies - Severe Flu Therapy works really well. Mine has been with me since May 9th but the first week was the worst. Liquids! Hope yours gets better FAST! I would not want anyone to have this crud. Wrap yourself in a bubble of protection. Pale yellow works for me. I wonder what your color is?

My vegetable garden is a 10 x 20 area, supported by 8 x 10 planks. I liked it that way for a number of years because I believe it is more weed free and warms up faster in the spring. Now, as I grow older, I am beginning to build up separate boxes within that area for a more raised garden. I have 'made do' until now but am creating another honey dew for the DH as I want them raised substantially now - not just my make do effort. Its kind of a mess at this point so I do not want to show pictures for a couple of weeks yet. But I will. I practice the Square foot gardening method and have been dividing the area into 4 x 4 boxes with accessibilty between each box. Well, trying with my mundane methods. Time to step it up. So there are four 4 x 4's along one side of the garden. A center path and then a little different configuration along the other side. Pictures, I promise.

Good Memorial Day Morning.

Here is a reason I and others that free range are sometimes low on eggs. This chicken has figured out a great hiding place. I am going to leave them there and hope she goes broody, I cannot think of a safer place for her outdoors to brood.

My memorial day plans are pretty simple. Judy has to work so I am going to the Memorial Day service at the Cemetery. Visit my Ancestors and relatives honor the fallen and then back home.

I need to try and get some chicks outdoors today, but that is after I make a trip to Ivie's to pillage some Lilacs! My Son and DIL were going to go with me to steal lilacs, nbut they have decided to not fight the afternoon traffic south from here to Shakopee. I have to admit, I feel good about that, I was concerned about them being in all that traffic.

Edited to add: I no more than post this and my son calls and says they are coming because DIL wants plants.....She is a plant nut, she needs acres of land in stead of square feet.

She should be fine there until the chicks start to hatch, then the chirping will be like a dinner bell to every skunk and coon in the county. The last days of incubation, I would either move her to a coop or build a fence around her. I had one that built a nest out by the woodpile in the grass, Last week I put her in a cage in the garage. I now have 3 babies and more coming.
Have to go get the garden in before it's time to harvest it...see you all later.

Ralph....how did you ever find that nest! What a clever girl!

I did not find her, my cousin's grand daughter did , she is about 4-5, so it shows how they peek into every little space there is and how hard it is to keep them out of places and to hide things from them..

The nest only had one egg when she found it a week ago.

@Ivie
The gosling is doing much better, today I moved him into a larger area so he can move around a bit more.
He's getting a lot more used to people, when I moved him he didn't fight whatsoever, maybe cause I put a sweatshirt on him
