Surviving Minnesota!

thimble berry ready to plant somewhere .

Boysenberry

Pear tree graft 6 foot plus tall .

Arctic raspberry . A ground cover type . Needs a pollinator as their own pollen is not compatible with itself . I have 2 named varieties . Plant to put them near blackberries for crossing . Should be hardy .

Ralphie, sorry to read about your losses. I hope whatever it was ate those golf balls and dies as a result.
The parrot episode is a unique experience. It escaped from somewhere and must have been attracted to all the bird activity at "Ralphie's Fowl Ranch".
Now you truly have a house bird.

Ralphie that looks like a cockatiel . When I was a kid parakeets were popular . A local feed store raised them . It was rumored that he turned one loose once in awhile . Whoever caught it would come in and buy a cage and feed . Good feed customer then .

I doubt that is the case for you .

ralphie, sorry about all your losses

did you find the owner of the Cockatiel yet? Maybe put an ad in the paper? I had several as a child and most of them talked

Judy thinks it is a parrot Cockatiel. I have no idea. It will be here a short time is all. I am not buying a cage, I doubt it would do well when it is 40 below. I posted it on Craigslist, but just called it a house bird and said whoever lost it to email me and describe the bird they lost. Pictures are preferred.

EJB it will never see the inside of our house!!!! I am hoping whatever it is swallowed those golf balls and has constipation so bad it dies from them.

I have been busy getting ready for this evening incase the visitor comes back.

In the midst of todays turmoil, I have been watching the Speckled Sussex chicks closely. They are 3 weeks old and their mother has already abandoned them. She appears to be more interested in her fun than her babies welfare... If I said anything more it might border on being politically incorrect.

Now back to the days good news. when checking on the chicks 5 minutes ago. I heard the clucking of a hen, I thought maybe the SS decided to become a decent Mother, I was wrong....It is better news, I have 2 purebred Partridge Chanticlers! They will be living in a maximum security prison for a while. I do not care if they are boys or girls. If they are Girls I will keep them, if they are one of each I will keep them, if they are boys I will keep one and EJB will get the other. (I can see EJB doing the rooster dance now).....

I can not believe I could not get them to hatch and the hen hatches 2 of them. I wish I had given the other PC hen, PC eggs instead of guinea eggs now.

He sells mushrooms to Posh restaurants in Minneapolis and does Mushroom classes on foraging so he doesn't "give" alot away on his site. This is his business. But if you look closely on some of his photos...you'll see which ones he's picking and putting in his baskets and which ones are poisonous...just being left uncut in the woods. He does a ton of foraging up on the iron range in the fall.

So just thinking - this forager picks the good mushrooms of course and leaves the not good. What happens with the not good mushrooms? Do any animals eat them? I think they would be toxic to animal as well as humans. Of what use are toxic mushrooms?

We had a bad night last night, and I just discovered it.

I lost all 4 of my teenage turkeys. The ones Sidekick was watching some....

I lost the 2 BA chicks the Turkey hen had adopted.

I lost every egg in the turkey nest the hen was sitting on.

I even lost 3/4ths of the golf balls Sidekick was hatching.

I do not see any tracks from strange animals. I see no signs of a fight. I have upset turkey hens crying this morning and yelling for their babies is all.

The game cam captured nothing. I did have a stray dog here yesterday, for the 3rd time. I ran it off. Judy said I should scare it with one of my guns. I do not think I have a scaring type gun. Next time, he will become a good dog. (Yep, I am a tad ticked off right now).

I am thinking Coyote or Cat with young somewhere close to lose that many and not have a sign of the bodies. I will besetting some surprises for it today. My dogs will not be going outside without muzzles and me close by.

Not a happy camper right now.

doo

Ilovelayers, I am sorry I was thinking the judge let the woman hold it. If she just picked it up, it shows her total lack of class and manners. (not to mention stupidity as far as disease goes.)

Good luck in the heat Jerry.

Ugh! So sorry to hear this Ralphie. Looking at my big coop today and I see the front entry door is chewed up. Strange. Happened pretty fast too. What should I do everyone to secure it? Nothing got in, the birds are the right count - do I need to worry?
