Surviving Minnesota!

Huh look at that! Ralphies chickens and exotics!

I let junior out of his cage. He looked great. Vent check revealed no bugs. He is hanging out with June and Patsy. I think they all remember each other from the 1st grade brooder. Dixie taking on low hen pecking order characteristics is putting him through his paces.

Interestingly though she scared us last night. She didn't go to roost in the garage with June and Patsy. We looked high and low for her. Found her in her favorite nest box in the big girl coop. She done. No more brooding I guess. I should be getting some summer eggs from her shortly.

Sylvia started her July molt last week. She looks like hades. But when everybody else is shivering this fall she'll be setting with a full set of feathers laughing at them. Lol

Just popped over here to snitch on Ralphie.....only to see the parrot. Thats crazy!

What I'm snitching about is the sweet post of Coffee's on the Turkey thread talking about how wonderful Ralph & Judy are! Sorry Ralph....

You made this really hard to comment on the pictures as tight as you placed them...How did you do that?  Are you a witch or something?  What kind of magic is that?

The pigeon is cool.

That foul waterfowl is not... I am surprised the health official allow that smelly thing in public....

I can't really see the next black one well..

Anyone thinking that white rock is not a good bird is nuts.. Did the judges really let the woman touch it?  I would be beyond ticked off if a stranger picked up and felt Andy when he gets his purple ribbon!   Judges can but no one else.  Showing a bird is a biosecurity risk having a disgruntled mother hold them is a biosecurity A-bomb...

The cochin is a great looking bird too.

I wanted to exhibit in the local fairs but neither Sherburne or Mille lacs county have an open division on poultry just 4H birds.  Andy was heart broken when I told hi he could not go to the fair.

It was right after the class took place, I'm not sure the judge was standing there. It was still at the showing table though. I thought it was very rude...

I checked out the gentleman forager site . Interesting . I took cuttings of thornless blackberry and black raspberry yesterday , 36 cuttings into my cloning machine for rooting . Both of these tip root naturally . Need larger patches of berries . Got to get busy outside again . Big fan and shade to help cool me .

He sells mushrooms to Posh restaurants in Minneapolis and does Mushroom classes on foraging so he doesn't "give" alot away on his site. This is his business. But if you look closely on some of his photos...you'll see which ones he's picking and putting in his baskets and which ones are poisonous...just being left uncut in the woods. He does a ton of foraging up on the iron range in the fall.

We had a bad night last night, and I just discovered it.

I lost all 4 of my teenage turkeys. The ones Sidekick was watching some....

I lost the 2 BA chicks the Turkey hen had adopted.

I lost every egg in the turkey nest the hen was sitting on.

I even lost 3/4ths of the golf balls Sidekick was hatching.

I do not see any tracks from strange animals. I see no signs of a fight. I have upset turkey hens crying this morning and yelling for their babies is all.

The game cam captured nothing. I did have a stray dog here yesterday, for the 3rd time. I ran it off. Judy said I should scare it with one of my guns. I do not think I have a scaring type gun. Next time, he will become a good dog. (Yep, I am a tad ticked off right now).

I am thinking Coyote or Cat with young somewhere close to lose that many and not have a sign of the bodies. I will besetting some surprises for it today. My dogs will not be going outside without muzzles and me close by.

Not a happy camper right now.

Ilovelayers, I am sorry I was thinking the judge let the woman hold it. If she just picked it up, it shows her total lack of class and manners. (not to mention stupidity as far as disease goes.)

Good luck in the heat Jerry.

Oh my Ralphie....that is horrible.

@I Love Layers Thank you for telling us about the crazy woman at the fair. I appreciate the info as this is our first year showing and I could discuss with my kids.

cloning machine is just a pump and spray nozzles in a pot .

no wilting since yesterday .

This is the underside of lid with cuttings sticking through . No miracles here . Works good on things that root readily to moderate difficult to root .

No problem.
One thing I noticed yesterday was that a lot of kids were not making eye contact with the judge. The girl that got Grand Champion Showmanship got it because she was the only one who made consistent eye contact
