Surviving Minnesota!

I got them in late June or early July, I have 3 breeds of Fufus!   Bring on the suburban housewives that want cute chickens!

The CLB hens I sold in Hutch went to Chaska,  the only thing that mattered to the woman that bought the was crest size, not color, condition or general looks. Just crest size~!

It's not about the size of the crest, it's how you use it? Or so I've heard it said....

Anyone else have an overabundance of skunks this fall? Last evening I saw another skunk across the road from our driveway. By the time I ran to get the gun then back to get the keys to gun safe....and loaded the gun. He was gone. This makes #3 in a week.

I have had skunks getting into my cat food. My mama cat tangled with one near her litter recently too. Can smell it blech!

I have been setting 'live' traps but no luck yet.
I also keep my varmint gun handy with a loaded mag next to it this time of year. I tuck it up behind a coat in my coat rack so it is near the door and handy but also out of sight

Good morning all you soggy ones in the south. We have bluebird skies up here. By the looks of the swath we will be dry. I am preparing my hole of a house I live in for an out of town guest who is flying in from Hawaii. He is a H.S. buddy of DH and he wants to duck hunt this weekend. I need a grass mower person. And a landscape cleaner outer. A bathroom cleaner. Kitchen Cleaner. Sheet Washer and over all junk in the corners cleaner. Who wants to join the fun?! My plate is full. I think I will put some flowers on the piles of poop around the house and call it good. He won't be able to see it when he's in the duck blind or out at the bar catching up with old friends or when he's sleeping to catch up on jet lag. Right?

Still alot of green out there on the trees. This is usually our peak color weekend. There's some yellows starting too...a bit of a glow...but I'd say the color is a tidge late this year. It will be interesting to see if the leaves hang on long with the trees having had all the moisture. One thing I can say is that the little orange maple and yellowish popple leaves make me turn my head all the time when I'm out looking for Chanterelles. Very very concealing now. Tricky.

Congratulations Grandpa Ralphie. Tough to be away from the baby I'm sure. But smart if you are suspicious of a bug. When I had the twins I made people wash their hands before they held them. Some people understood right away. I think only a few gave me funny looks. LOL.

Ahem...I didn't care.

Ralphie the Fufu needs two pig tails. Super cute and super funny to see them in two piggies. I will tell you what, we can laugh about that and roll our eyes but Birds appreciate being able to see. Just saying.

Welcome back Kloppers. Waiting on some of your photography from the farm.

Yep - they are doing the deed to make baby skunks. I can always tell when there is an over abundance of the lil critters by the road kill. Some years there hasn't been any road kill of skunks. There haven't been many coons or cats this year on the highway by our home. So their population must be down too.

Those darn wild things. Stay away from our chickens!

Bummer to see they still haven't fixed photo uploads from the iPhone app.
Anyhow here are some for ya!

The garage is coming along. Steel roof is on, windows are in and house wrap is all on now. Walk in doors and garage doors are next when this rain quits

The steel was so easy to work with. I highly recommend it. A tad more money but lasts way longer and goes up way easier.

The chickens have been big help with this project. They are experts at crapping all over my new cement floors.

Our 5 kittens are thriving. Eyes are open and I suspect we will see them moving around the farm soon. Mama moved them into the chicken coop after her tangle with the skunk which has made for an unique dynamic. They are 3 weeks old now. If anyone wants one, we can't keep them all. Let me know.

Garlic was a huge success this year. Sold the small stuff at the farmers market and made decent money at it. Kept the largest as seed stock and for my own use. It's so tasty!
