Surviving Minnesota!

i am SOOOO SORE!!! it is kickball season and we played a double header in the cold, wind, and a little rain. we won one, lost one but it was a fun night. that said, running around in the cold for so long then sitting in the car ride home has turned into tight and cramping muscles.

@Cluckies I have a few ladies in heavy fast molt too. i wouldnt be surprised if they dont eat, most of mine who go into a fast molt spend the day moping around and not moving too much. im sure their appetite will return as their feathers come in.

Haha, now I'm surprised! Did you really eat it?

Just a couple, the claw things got hung up on my uvula so I just couldn't finish them.

Not sure if I am in the right place to ask a question about one of my hens but looked and couldn't figure where to post.
One of my two chickens is missing pin feathers from her rump.I guess that is what you would call it. Right under her tail feathers when the feathers look soft and fluffy. The feathers are thick but I can see flesh through them. I don't handle my chickens, they are skittish with me so I don't know if she has any mites or whatever kind of bugs chickens get. She seems alright, eats well and enjoys being let out each evening to run around and scratch with her sister. Do I need to be worried?

If she has mites, you will see brown specks like sand sticking to the base of the feathers and maybe even in the fluffy bottom part of the feathers and around the vent. If they have lice, if you look around the vent, you can see little whitish bugs that are larger than mites crawling around.
If it is a mature hen, they she maybe molting and you don't need to get too worried.

Got back from a VB game in Mott.
Long story we have 1 kid out on varsity from a shoulder injury and another that is sick. Both are starters. So JV rotations were messed up!

For the first and second match
I was playing for Elle, who plays middle where as I play outside, Elle was playing for Jodi who also plays middle, and Annika was playing for me, and Annika only plays back row where i play both
1f602.png

Elle and Jodi had to play varsity for the injured kids and you can only play 6 matches in one day, unless tournaments so they could only play 1 JV each so they could play 5 varsity if needed.
We weren't out of rotation once which was really surprising considering we had no clue what see were doing the first 6 rotations

We won the game though!

During the varsity match our best outside hitter got elbowed in the lungs. She was crying, which takes a lot for her to start crying. There was no one on the bench that can play her position.

There were quite a few parents around me saying this is why you don't play seniority when giving out varsity jerseys...
Basically referring that I should be benching varsity. But we all know there be angry parents about that

That bare spot can also be a favorite spot for feather-picking-eating. If you get some time sit and watch your birds at roost time etc... See if you have a bird with that naughty habit.

Lol. You guys driving all this way for mushrooms that I'm not even sure are around any more! Lol. I'm not even entirely sure where to go. Just a few ideas to try. I'd feel really bad if you drove and we got nada. It's up to you. But by the looks of those last chanterelles we are getting to the end.

You edited this!

I read the first version just before I tried to fall asleep last night. You made it hard to sleep.

All I could picture was you eating one of those things. I had always thought of you as such a nice sweet person.....until last night, when I realized you were actually a sister of Judy's. Just another WWD....

Maybe a cousin, but evil I am sure....

Like an al dente noodle, not much flavor really, I had to put butter and garlic on them.

I was wrong in above post ..this is what I read before bed to ruin my nights sleep...

I found this mushroom in my Audubon book, it is called "Stinky Squid" Clathraceae Phallales..

It is a stinkhorn of some kind. However, the book says it is not in our area. first seen in USA in 1915 and in the mid-Atlantic states. I am assuming because of Global tectonic plate shifting we have moved to where the fungi was.

School sports always seems to cause lots of drama. Try to enjoy it without the drama if you can...and remember stuff happens and in a few days nobody will really care what happened.
