Like an al dente noodle, not much flavor really, I had to put butter and garlic on them.

Actually, I live in Ala. The weather here has been so hot I think I would enjoy a cold winter with lots of snow. I have a brother in law from Minn. Lives in Ca now. Wonder if he left because of the cold?

I've been MIA. anywhoo, hope everything is going well. so I've got my ladies molting, 3 out of 5. 2 have not eaten in 3 days. is it normal for them to quit eating while molting?

Any idea what these are called? I saw them in a log last fall and thought they looked so cool for a picture. I do not share a love of fungi as food as many of you seem to. I am more of the "Those look cool, I will take a picture." and enjoy them that way. It made a cool screen saver, then a cool background on my phone, then a cool profile pic on FB.

They look like speckled hen's eggs. Just a little out of shape.

They get a little cranky while molting but I don't think they quit eating, I bet you are just not seeing them eat. Give some high protein snacks, you have meal worms?
