Surviving Minnesota!

I did the wall framing and sheeting with a gun the rest by hand. Probably 40/60 split with the 60 being by hand.

Outside of this project I almost exclusively use torx wood screws I love them too. Just as long and the driver doesn't slip off and you stab your hand with the bit. Not that I have done that.... And definitely not several times lol

I've started buying them from the bulk bins at fleet farm. They are a tad cheaper that way and you can get them all the way up to 8 or 10" if you need them

We can tell if you are telling mistruths here by the tell tale scarring you get in the webbing between the thumb and pointer finger. Not that I have ever done it either.

Ivie, I read it..

Kloppers did you pound every nail or use nail guns? I have almost stopped using nails. I use screws now. I love the torq heads.

and less chance of hitting my thumb.
I'm with you, nail gun or torque screws. I like screws because if I decide I don't need a coop or want to remodel it, I can just take the screws out and reuse the material without worrying about breaking it prying out nails.

Okay - MNChickMom - I do go visit Tom once in awhile and walk away glad that he is where he is and no longer living with me. LOL

I want to go to Hutch to experience the Chicken show. So how many on this thread will be there and what time. Can we plan to lunch together or would that not work out?

Sigh . . . . . back to short and sweet messages. All done with that long book stuff. But Ralphie needed something to read so I stepped up. Off to the errands for the day. Bye

I appreciated it too! I need my reading material.

First, I did read all of your tales. You were busy!

I will be at Hutch, clerking with one of the judges. I got the newsletter yesterday and there are about 2000 birds signed up. I had 27 registered, but won't be taking them many now that I sold some and some are getting beat up in the pens - from other pullets! I am not happy with the way my Buckeye cockerels are looking, so not sure on how many of those will end up there.

There is a 4-H type lunch stand there you can grab sandwiches and chips and desserts. Otherwise, there are places close by. It is not like a fair show, just so you know. They will close off aisles the judges are working and when they break for lunch or are done, then it is all open to look at the birds. They caged by group according to Class, Breed, Variety and Lot (cocks, hens, cockerels, pullets, trios). With 5 judges, the whole thing should go pretty quickly this year.

I got my newsletter but have not looked at it yet.

I am not going to bring my full amount either. Stuff happens.

I have decided to bring the CLB pullet with the white feather. She most represents what the breed should look like. I cannot find a disqualifier for the feather. I do not like and will not breed it. But I want people so see the CLBs and hopefully some of the blue eggs I get. I know on the CLB thread I have some of the bluest eggs posted there.

I checked the SOP of barred and found nothing and the proposed SOP for CLBs also,,

One of the Sport pullets I had isn't. I walked in and caught "her" doing a "him" thing to the other pullet. He has a small comb and I thought he was going to be a she. It is very hard to tell them apart until they are very mature.

The small comb could make him my breeder if it stays straight and not floppy. The one I am taking to Hutch does not have as big of a crest as I want.

Sneaky boys indeed! I have a cockerel that I think must be buckeye over bared rock that did the same too. DW loved it and now it's doing boy stuff. I should get a picture, it's a neat cross. Has a rose or a pea comb (I forget which is which).

We have storms rolling in tonight so I probably won't get to work on the garage. Maybe I will invite my extra SS cockerels to dinner tonight. Needs to happen this week and I can do it in my shop out of the rain if need be. My chicken picker went back to my aunts so I will have to do it the old fashioned way. DW doesn't want me to keep any of them, they keep chasing her and my dogs around the yard (it's hard not to laugh) but I may keep one and see what happens in a 'less saturated market'. I will have a few more home hatched cockerels to do in a few weeks and could do the last one in then of its still a wiener.

Am I being ambitious if I keep 4 roosters with my 55 hen flock?

I have never gotten the app to work. So I guess I am older than you after all. Sorry I got that wrong.

I don't think so my rule is 10 hens to a rooster
