Surviving Minnesota!

@jerryse , I'm glad you're okay. Make sure you get some good rest in. Do they expect that clot to resolve itself?

@Bogtown Chick , I love your pictures! I was just thinking today how much I enjoy having my feathered fluffs follow me around. Your rooster is a very handsome boy!

@holm25 , Are you hunting on your property or going elsewhere? I'll be up in Grand Rapids again for deer opener. It's still buck only in my zone. My Grandpa is at the age where he can take buck or doe in any zone - a perk to being 89 I guess. I haven't had a chance to do any pre-season scouting, so we'll see how my season goes. I may just get a lot of napping in.

I'll be breeding the Muscovy's more selectively next year to pin down genetics more closely. This year Caesar was paired with Cleo and a black, blue, and chocolate female. The fact that I was getting blue and black ducklings showed me he had a bit more going on, but there was also no rhyme or reason to my hatches. They all laid in the same nest until one of them went broody and took it over. They're worse than Cochins!

Quote: Thanks jerry!

Dark, damp, and wet out this morning up North. I really hate winter. Too much darkness, too much cold, and far too much wind up here than I like. I know it is supposed to be a time for "rest" but I plain don't like it! Who's with me?
I'm with you.

Ona seperate note. Are there any wild animals that can be safely feed to the chickens? My hubby traps all winter long all types of animals, skunks, mink, muskrats, coon, bobcat, otter, beaver, fisher, pine marten, cyotes, and I am sure there are more. If it moves and bares fur he tries to trap it. He really wants to feed the meat to the chickens for animal protein. He was like Why can't I feed it to them? Then proceeded to question all your knowledge. Typical man to question all knowledge that he doesn't come from him and he doesn't want to believe???
I agree, cook it up.

Ok I got a story but first let me say I am fine . Fell off the roof early today . Knocked me out for about 5 minutes I was told . Scrambled my thinking a bit . Wife took me to the ER . Checked out ok . Nothing broken just a couple of head bumps . MRI found a small blood spot in my head . I asked her what happened and she said you fell off the roof . I said what was I doing up there ? I could not remember I was roofing for a few minutes . So I am resting the rest of the day . I think I will tie off with a rope tomorrow . I did this before . Just seemed to have good traction today but not in that spot . Went to the Chiropractor for some massage to relax some muscles . Ate a late lunch at the Chinese buffet . Told my wife my fortune cookie said you take short trip .

How scary! Glad you're OK!!

That's on Menards! They place those thing right where you will see them. I have found I need to eat before going to Menard's like I do before I go to a grocery store. It's a shame to have to do that but going on an empty stomach will end up with a cupboard full of junk food.

That said Menard's has some good food too. I like the cheap ribs they have.

So you go home with bags of junk as well, Geeez you men.

I am not seeing those little thumbnail pictures anymore, I thought BYC removed them. Do you still see them? Did I change my settings?

How do I get them back?

Erlibrd I am guessing it is best I not use CO. I look so young now people think I am in my early 20's. If I used CO I would not be able to by Mikes or Henry's.

It is a burden I live with...

Ivie Maybe I should have said I got larger in the 50's and 60's.

It doesn't make you look young but it makes you feel younger, oils your joints!

afternoon everyone! @Bogtown Chick cool pics! I got some today in between the rain... I included some pics of all sorts of critters today! even got out and did some work on the greenhouse! Introducing my beautiful "Big Blue" as I call him and his ladies..... random chippie ho likes to eat the chicken feed another of Big Blues gals.... he has 11 (5 Barred Rocks, 2 Wyandottes and 4 Blues like himself) Found out that Cedar Waxwings love Ash Berries! and Robins too.... more ladies.... and last but not least......my sad rooster
Siggie. Your birds! did the cedar waxwings look drunk after their berries? I hear they get intoxicated on fermented fruit trees this time of year.

Morning . Now that I have the win I will add more . Feel fine . Neck just a little stiff . Wife will probably keep me away from the roof today . Grandson coming after work to help me for the weekend . So I feel lucky .

Jerry I'm glad you bounced and you were able to wake on all your hourly wake ups! That's a heck of a Tom Sawyer trick to get help on the roof.

Today is Friday. Payday. The kids tell me they've outgrown last year's Basketball shoes. So a day prepping the coop for winter has been shot with a day run to brained tomorrow.

Poop

Does anybody use a solar powered coop light? I'm going to try and supplement lighting in the coop for a few extra months and am on the search for an easy method. Otherwise I thought about hanging up a small strand of x-mas lights. And it's best to add light in the morning, correct?

........these are the things I think about when baby doesn't want to sleep

I've considered trying something like this from harbor freight for supplemental light. Should be plenty bright for it. Just haven't pulled the trigger as I have power in my coop. Xmas lights my not be bright enough to make a difference
