, I wish my birds were laying as good as yours! Very impressive....especially without added light. I did get some solar LED xmas lights to hang in the coop. I'm just waiting for a good day to string 'em up. I think my birds went on strike today anyways - I kept them locked in the coop. They would have just stared out the door anyways. Have you ever read the book 'Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that type'? those are my chickens....right there.

Happy Thanksgiving to all especially those turkeys who have been spared being dinner!

Of course I have read that book. We own that book and preschoolers really love that humor! We have an open coop. We are going to close off one bird door for the winter but leave the other open. The doors face south so now cold hard wind should blow that way unless it is trying to warm up from the south. The coop is sprayfoamed so there is not much top ventilation except around the the walk door. We will see how it works. The lights are going in this weekend. It's getting hard to do chores after school because it is dark so early.

We made it home in one piece!

It stated snowing in about Hinckley, by the time we hit Milaca it was really coming down.

I checked on the chickens when we got home. They were not happy to be checked on. They were all on roosts or sleeping in their cages. As I walked by them a few growled their displeasure..

We are getting my grandpa's mare who is going lame, her name is Lilly, she's about 18. She can only be ridden for about an hour or a little bit more at a slow pace, she will make a good horse for us to have people who can ride but maybe hasn't for a while. She's technically my mom and older sisters but I'll use her for quick easy rides especially during calving when I want to give Sneaks a break.
