Is it morning? Its still dark out here.

Yesterday was productive. We butchered all the extra roosters... I did a bantam faverolle just as a test. He only dressed out at 2 pounds, but surprisingly a lot of meat on the carcass. The Easter egger cockerels were all a May hatch and were in the 5-6 pound range. What was really funny is we did a standard cochin ... they are massive birds, but yet just mainly all feathers. He was lucky to hit 7 pounds dressed out.

I'm pretty sure school is cancelled again as we have a blizzard.

Good Morning Chicken People.

It is morning gray out. Although I do see some pink in the sky. Maybe we'll have a bit of sun today for the chickens. Yesterday they got just a bit. Ranged on patches of green grass here and there. The patches of snow are like an obstacle course for them all. The old hens just trudge through. And the young ones stop and stutter...look around...find another path. DS had done a few rips through the yard on 4 wheeler after the storm. So all the tracks melted down to grass and there's myriad of chicken paths in my lawn from it. Very confusing I'm sure from a foot off the ground. Nonetheless it is good to see them out on green (and white) again. Of course I threw scratch as incentive.

I'm leary of that bird of prey. He did another round on Sunday. I saw him/her circle the coop. Dang thing. Couldn't quite make out what it was. But it was big and I'm guessing it had a gizzard full of Dixie. I have yet to hear Junior make that *trill* predator call for aerials. I want him to get that down.... obviously. Maybe I need to sit out and watch him a bit...see if he does do it in a more subtle manner that I haven't picked up on. I know the high hen, Sylvia is more subtle.

Ralphie...I hope you are alive this AM after your ambitious day yesterday.

I have done two days in a row at the new gym in town. I feel pretty dang good. DD had early AM BB practice so got into the gym by 5:30 this morning. It really sets a good tone in the morning. We'll see how long it lasts....

Ralphie, you did not respond to my recent inquiry about Coffee? Do you think we have read the last as relates to Coffee First?

Glad to read that you got so much accomplished around the home place. All this poultry showing cuts into the productivity for other projects.

Thankfully we have escaped the raptors this fall so far. I mustn't have caught you saying poor Dixie got snapped up (I glossed over some stuff over the weekend while I was busy). So sorry you lost your little broody

Thanks Kloppers. No worries. I've always known she wasn't appropriate for our set up. But she enjoyed a long run here on the property and she surely made us giggle and gave me a consistent broody schedule when I needed it. She was sort of amazing actually. She did really well free ranging for a long time. But something got the sneak on her Saturday.

RIP Dixie Doo.... She'll be fondly remembered. For certain.

I just saw a bald eagle fly over here at work. They are going nuts out there. Lots of calling going on.

This is probably my problem: The Lakes are still wide open. So these guys haven't went a little further south for open waters. Sooner that lake freezes ...the better off me and my chickens will be. And Plus I'll get the men out of the house and into the fish house....
