Surviving Minnesota!

Morning peeps. I'm very impressed with my scanner I bought 3 years ago or so, to scan in photos of the family. I may have mentioned it, but I'm just so excited. It took some of my aunts photos (my dads side) that were so discolored orange and automatically changed them back to the color they used to be. Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner, love it! It is a flat bed, only thing different I would change is to make the bed bigger so that it could scan a whole page of a photo album at once. I asked the other relatives if they have any photos of my mom, as we don't have any when she was young. Still waiting to hear back from them.

no idea. my darkest eggs come from my gold comets, so maybe one of them.

I was going to ask what they were, too. I heard the Gold Comets are excellent layers for many years. All of my "brown" egg layers lay pinkish eggs. My BCM's are the only ones that lay nice dark eggs for me. I plan on getting a few Wellies in the Spring to replace some of my older layers. I hope to get some deeper brown eggs from them, but they'll likely be hatchery stock unless Minnie hatches.

Back from Menards! I am thrilled. i managed to get everything i need for my chimney (hopefully) and was out the door for only $140!! i forgot i had 2 11% rebate checks from construction this summer. I think the total was $400+ before the rebates. PLUS i get 11% back from that again. i love double dipping!

I got home to find much of my flock outdoors! i havent seen them out and about in a long long time since i usually go to work before sunrise and get home at sunset. I miss Chicken TV!

Having a snack lunch then back to work! no fiddle farting around today!

Oh and a little humble bragging to you guys who are having bad egg days.... I love the colors!

3 dozen + 2 full sized eggs and maybe 8 pullet sized eggs. not sure who is laying the small eggs. Maybe the SS and the cornish?
Ralphie we definitly have more than one blue egger. we have been getting 2 a day sometimes and yesterday we got one that was a deeper olive color too (upper right in the bucket)

I can't wait to have that many layers again!!!

Sure Kloppers! As if It isn't bad enough you brag about getting eggs, you have to show my breeding hero Jerry how poorly I did trying to make a pea comb Black Australorp! All I succeeded in doing was making a Black Easter egger!~

i will admit this is still under 50% efficiency. we are at about 85-90 hens right now i think? We have some BAs that are in their 3rd winter thought and a others in their second, so that doesnt really surprise me that much. I'm happy enough with it

Speaking of the old ladies, I think I got an egg from Berts Great Grandma!

Either that or she was just sitting in the nest keeping the egg warm.

Kloppers your egg customers will love the variation. Once you discover your culprits you'll have to do your little write ups for the customers.

I know the Wellie will be a dark colored egg...but I'm thinking I should get some BCM's --I think they do lay darker if you get them from a breeder that has them dialed in for egg color. IDK...

Ralphie I bet those Air inversions were interesting to fly into coming into Rapid city.

I should also clarify (so she doesn't kill me) But she is 5'6'' and weighs 115 lbs. She's a whip of a thing....but I just had to chuckle the other night watching her with those two chicken breasts. I have to be creative with my food shopping. She's not a big Milk drinker. But she loves yogurts, cottage cheese, etc. So trying to keep those in good stock. She likes to drink Kefir too. which is like a yogurt smoothie with bubbles.

Ok Cluckies...so I did this Ancestry.com DNA for FIL and on the website you can also build family trees (free) and there is opportunity to scan in photos. I do have some photos of DH's and Mine Great Grandparents and maybe some just beyond. But I need to get a few scanned. I got a text from my first cousin who is doing some Ancestry.com stuff and he saw my scans of our Grandparents in common. So he is wanting to show me what he's uncovered so far. I'm beyond intrigued by it all. DH's is a bit of a mystery. But so far we're finding out He's 1/4 Swiss 1/2 Norwegian (we already knew MIL was full) and then the rest is looking English or Irish. Some family here before the revolution in New York and Connecticut. Very interesting.
