@duluthralphie

Your best friend heard me chopping through the ice the other day and had to come see what was going on!

Hello Chickeners . . . . I am so neglectful of you. I drove my car s l o w l y over to the mechanics this morning at 8:30 Its noon and we still have not heard back from him. My car was hurting big time. Then came back and got the coop cleaned up, rearranged some (of course there is not a lot to rearrange) and added pine needles in the pine needle area for them to play in. It is getting colder and colder. 20 hens, 1 rooster. We will see how that goes this spring. The hens have to hatch the little ones and I am supposing that IF I get chicks that half will be roosters. Keeping that in mind for freezer space. Five of the hens will be two this spring. 2 RIR and 1 BR; 2 ISA's I am thinking that the ISA's will become fodder for the soup pot in the fall because they should be pret near done laying. I understood them to be a two year bird when I got them.

Careful Ladies you'll be scaring Ed off his plans to move to the Banana belt. :gig Yes Snow....here-thank goodness...instead of ice.  I tell you what that rain we got Christmas really did a job on the snow pack.  I feel bad for the Deer breaking through that stuff.  Sadie runs through it and she trips when she breaks through.  She has a broken claw on her rear paw...I'm sure from busting it on that ice.

Destiny...I guess maybe it gets easier overall...the older they get.  And when you've taken your last load of toys to the second hand store...that's kind of nice.  Kids want electronics now, clothes.  etc. Easier to tuck and away and store stuff.  So am finding Christmas nicer without all the toyland stuff. Ew, Gosh I remember those days.  Figuring out where to hide the Pink or bright Monstrosities that are toys.  One thing I always liked getting them though was the outdoor stuff.  The  tub sleds, fakey snow boards, one year I got them Cross Country skis and it was a fabulous year and Christmas...we skiied right after Christmas brunch.  The outdoor stuff never disappointed me. Or them.

My dogs also have mixed feelings on the frozen skin of the snow. When we walk they will run and play and do this awkward bounding run where the front legs go in step but the two back legs awkwardly and gently bound together. It is a sight to see and they still break through some. I do always worry about injury. Hyperextended joints especially.

This weekend they were chasing one another. Front dog broke through and back dog ran right up the others back and on forward. It was pretty funny

Do you live in the same Ice Box I do?
