Surviving Minnesota!

I lost one of my Blue Cochins to a fox.....

now I have to keep them all locked in the run all day while I am at work. Everyone around here says I have to kill the fox or I will never get rid of him. I don't want to kill the fox and I don't want to lose anymore chickens. I am now dumping all our dog poop on the outside of our hotwire in an attempt to scare him away

That is so sad! Sly as a fox might mean that it would catch onto the dog poop ploy. How about a repellant such as lion or whatever pee?

Holm, I suggest that you remain a bachelor indefinitely. The two most expensive things in life are a wife and children. A gentleman of culture and financial worth will have females coming after him. Thus companionship is not dependent upon marriage ?

Speaking of Ginger, my favorite refreshment when in Jamaica is Gangster Punch. It is comprised of Ginger Beer and Rum.

The weather has turned ugly near the big lake. The rain is changing over to snow.

The best thing I have found to remove Blue-Kote is Purell Hand Sanitizer. It works wonders wher no amount of scrubbing ever did!

I finished Ed's new shack, I made a little bigger pen, for him, but I think I made it too big,

It is 4x8 or 32 square ft for 3 birds. I made it 4 ft tall, I should have stayed at 3ft.

However, the high ceiling does seem to make Ed happier. I put him in the cage first, then the girls. He made moves on the first girl, dropped his wing and I thought he would make me some babies. BUT the hen refused his advances so he stopped trying. Ed needs to learn to not take No as an answer.

Here are some pictures of Ed and his girls. The color stinks on the pictures he is not as dark as he looks.

Below is the roll-away nest box. I have cardboard around it to try and darken it for the girls.

And below here is the "egg Chute" Where if this works right I will harvest fertilized PC eggs,

And this is the entire cage. it is on a stand so I can sweep and clean under it.

Ralphie, show Judy our lapper technique. Maybe she'll help with Snitch. Things to point out to her include, but not limited too: cozy full lap coverage, wing hand warmers, sweetly sleeping turkey. How can she resist?

I used the turkey hand warmer today. Snitch fell asleep while I was holding her.

Cuddles got upset and was making noise and even crowed at me from his cage. When I went to his cage he went to the far corner and refused to come to me until I begged and apologized for holding Snitch.

Ralph, I'm impressed with how quickly Snitch is becoming a lapper! There is something so stress relieving about a turkey snoozing in your lap! And the hand warmers cant be beat!

Ivie glad you surfaced.

Okay Erlibird...I wanted to go to Brainerd tomorrow...I'm not like the looks of the police officer protecting citizens from icy roads.  I need chicken feed, bedding, dog food...and the usual Tide, garbage bag, Dishwasher powder, Toilet Paper run.  I think I might bite the bullet and buy local albeit it costs more and have a Walmart order delivered to my front door for some of the other stuff.  My butt is staying home.  Yuck...Ice.  Tons of People do that around here.  Our UPS man is a saint.  But the 50 lb bags of dog food, toilet paper and such that get delivered here in this town is amazing.  Shipping is free after $50.  And 1/2 tank of Gas is $20.  I will snuggle in.

Oh shoot I wanted yarn to finish my sock....

Will have to think about it now...  :/

:weee

It was very icy this morning but this afternoon much better. I don't know how tomorrow will be! I have not checked the weather report yet. I order dog and cat food from Chewy. c
Amazon has everything....
but I go to the feed store in Aiken for chicken feed. Brainerd for the wood chips.
