Surviving Minnesota!

My dad and I are going to richardton tomorrow. The owner of the gas station has given us permission to go get ALL of the corn that are emptied out of the traps there. My dad said it should last me til spring. Then we're off to a neighbor's to pick up 2 deer carcasses

Morning .

Lots of posts yesterday . We had a nice rabbit hunt . Going to get to 58 degrees todat they say . Record is 62 . Sunshine predicted . Lots of mud .

I am making a feed run today. Monticello here I come.

Jerry come on up here you can have all the rabbits you want. Of course I only see them in the summer. I burned my brush pile the other day and it had lots of rabbit tracks poop and urine around and under it. I hope I got some of the rabbits.

Also you could shoot as many squirrels as you want too.. Don't worry about seasons or that pesky Warden fellow, just blast them.

It seems that this miniature warm spell has awoken the varmints. Saw a fox on our property yesterday and this morning I was awoken to my husband shooting a raccoon.

Today will be coop poop scraping.....i assume just about everyone else will be doing the same.

One of my roosters had an accident today. Don't know what happened. I'm gonna blame it on the Guineas.

Ralphie this might be one of Luckys boys but he doesn't have a sprig so he could be out of my Australorp cross rooster and a Barred Rock. He has a nice carcass size doesn't he? Nice long keel on him. Almost should have kept him. But he was always starting fights with everyone.

Well off to butcher (aka waist my time) so bantams roosters that are probably have his size.

Hi

I have a rooster that will soon be joining us for supper, his main infraction is he is a midnight crow-er...just simply annoying the rest of the day. I have processed birds before - but it was with a crew and they had their nice shiney water boiler dipper thingy; and pluck-o-matic barrel. I was just having discussions with my DH yesterday or the day before about the "best" (aka, easiest) way to do just a single bird. Still best to cone them and dispatch via neck cuts??? And just heat a pot of water to for plucking?.....(Mainly I want to know if my ideas were right and his ideas were not quite

Yep a cone and sharp knife is all I use. No hot water. I either skin or dry pluck when I do 4-5 birds

2X on this, I made my own cone out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Cut the bottom off and made a V cut out of the sides , wrapped it together and riveted it. Works great. I have it hanging in a tree as a warning to nay miss behaving birds.

With just one bird I would skin it, less work and mess.
