Surviving Minnesota!

MNchickmom what all do your kids show? I am signed up for a market pen, a breeding trio, a cow calf pair and possibly a steer or breeding heifer. I am gonna take a look at the steers and heifers and see. We have a steer who is nice but toes in a little and I dont like how he holds himself sometimes but hes nice. We have a really nice heifer that I like but I worry she eont breed her first year if I show her.

Holms...This is our 2nd year in 4H so look out Benton County....the kids have all these high hopes and dreams.

They are signed up for Poultry and Swine. I know nothing about the swine....that is my husbands project with the kids. As for poultry they are each signed up for Market Pen, Breeding Trio and Brown Egg Layer. They have also been working on all sorts of non-animal science projects too. 4H is really an awesome program with a multitude of different projects for them to work on.

Holm are you going to try the toads in the market pen? I am so hoping they do better than the CX. There is no division for adults that I know of in open for them.

I really liked Benton county fair, I am thinking of entering a ton there. It is way better than Sherburne county.

Having Internet would be the way to go on all of the TV options now. I think even if you go to wcco.com you'll find their newscast live and videos...etc. Only problem is is that the local phone company may want you to contract for a year or two for the internet. And not let you shut down when you leave. These are questions of course that I don't have to ask them...so don't know. You might check your options there.

Got a good inch of snow and more coming... it looks like.

DH and I are preparing for our Ice Bocce tournament this weekend. We have 64 teams of 4 registered and we'll be out on the ice all day slinging pucks of oak. It's fun and all but we're missing a couple basketball games and I'm thinking I might be getting too old for it...?

Whoop, Erli. Are you using raw honey? The little bear squeezey has already had the beneficials heated out I believe. I need to pick up more raw honey. DH and the kids eat it like it's going out of style. Mostly with yogurt and fruit. It's like 8 bucks a jar. But with all the goodness that's in it ...IDK...worth it, I think.

I like making hot brandies when I'm sick. Lemon wedge squeezed, raw honey, shot of E & J, and warm water. If I drink that before bed it knocks me out for the night too. Something about the warmth and the booze. Plus I'm a cheap date.

My mom has honey bees. I get all the raw honey I want. She is in Wisconsin though so even though she has plenty to sell right now it is not convenient for you. She sends me home with a quart or 2 every visit.

Awesome! 4H is great! I have a gardening project too. My sister always does the gardening and natural lotions and scrubs with essential oils. My mom and sister make everything from laundry soap to scrubs and lotion with "natural" stuff and lots of with craft potions ( essential oils). They are kind of oil freaks and have now become distributors so have multiple orders of oils come in a week. My aunt in Brainerd also does a lot of that stuff.
