Surviving Minnesota!

Mine is mostly off, there's still a few windows covered that blow directly on the roosts.

What kinds of temps are you getting? do you often get snow in april? if we get snow now it shouldn't last long but I remember a blizzard in april about 10 years ago

MNchickmom it is normal for them to molt at this age. They are losing their white tipped feathers and growing in darker red feathers. This will not be the last time they molt either. They molt multiple times if I am remembering correctly.

Do you plan on bringing some Bucks to state?

I doubt this year. The buckeyes are back ups to the partridge chanticlers. In the event the pcs don't mature fast enough daughter has a back up. And I have a small comb variety for winter in mn.

Do you plan on breeding Bucks next spring? And PCs? I am selling my Cochin bantams and am just gonna stick with Bucks, Orps and maybe just maybe I can get an extra Dom hen later this fall for my little roo I have here. If he amounts to anything

Get your Dom's from Ralphie. My son is planning on showing some of Ralphie's (originally from Urch) and they are drool worthy.

I have seen Ralphies and they are stunning birds! Maybe Ralphie will have an extra female later on. I might just stick with Orps and Bucks and just breed them on a larger scale than I am right now. I want to have at least 8-10 good Bucks to go into breeding season next year. I am gonna keep 3 good males. Right now though I only have 2 males and 4 hens. I am only using my best rooster right now but come end of may I might use the other rooster just to see who produces better offspring. I definetly know which one is going this fall and which is staying though.
