Surviving Minnesota!

4 AM. I'm going to be worthless at work today. Can't sleep.

Siggie the chicks are amazing with those gorgeous mommas. How fun!

Ralphie. Jealous you found shrooms.

Snow rotating circle on the weather radar has a bad case of the uglies. Ed you might have to quit chicken cuddling and help your wife by picking up a shovel.

Jerry you got some soppy soaked ground down there. Come on up. 65 degrees after this snow leaves us Tuesday.

One of the ameraucanas is starting to go into egg break I think. Well deserved. She's been agoing strong since December. Bless her heart. A couple rubber eggs and some days without. I have oyster shell handy. I'd actually like her to take a break so she's not spent up too soon. I like her. She's the blue with the beard. Lays an olive egg. Gorgeous. Miss Kitty.

I'm going to try to get two hours of sleep now. Ni-night.

Thanks Jerry..

BC, I have given up on EJB and chicken cuddling...

The weather is poopy here,, however looking at the radar, I see, we are in the best condition possible today. Huge bands above and below us. I doubt our good fortune will last all day. You guys up north stay safe and drive carefully. These early November storms like this can be slippery.

I goofed last night, I was a bad chicken owner. I went out at around 8 to lock the birds up and they refused to go into their pens and coops. I planned to go back out at 9 and lock them. I fell asleep (sorry BC I slept like a rock) woke up at 11 and went to bed, not even thinking of the chickens..BAD BAD chicken owner.

Luckily I had my toads locked up, they were in bed, I think I locked the SS in also. I see they all seemed to have survived the night. I see them running around enjoying the morning.

I've been a bad chicken owner a couple nights in my life.

The snow is coming. Is a wet snow. Highways are wet. Grass is green with a bit of whitish cast to it. I hope it all disappears today as fast as it's coming. Ground had nice warm up the last two days. Chooks are out in this white sh-now.

While I couldn't sleep I finished another wool sock. I got my two hours in. But very draggy today. DS was up with stomach -vomiting. Lovely virus that every one has had around here lately. Except DH and I. Knock on wood.

Made a pitcher of fresh squeezed orange juice yesterday from tree ripened oranges from Texas. Picked not just a week ago. What a difference there is with them. Delicious. They are Valencia juicing oranges so more fibrous sections but WOw. I wish we could grow those Jerry!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Perfect day - can't work outside so I will inside.

Welcome Chickesonblue to Surviving Minnesota. Sorry but I will not be opening your link. Not in this age of scams. But you are welcome to chicken advice by posting your story for me to read. I will not go to your link to read it because I don't have any idea who you are.

BC - those sleepless nights! After a while I have learned to just relax and go with it. I always make it through the next day somehow. And it seems that I do not feel too bad. That happens after three nights in a row without good deep sleep. How old are you?

I have found a hen here and there that slept outside all night too Ralphie. Hm m m m, I say to myself. Isn't that interesting that they made it through the night without protection? I wonder what I would have said if it had gone the other way.

Siggie - LOVE seeing the pictures! At least once a week - please - I need updates to see how they feather out. Beautiful birds.

I'm 46--wait a minute 47.
But I put on 10 lbs during the winter and dH and I need a new king size mattress that doesn't have two sink holes in it. The weight doesn't help nor the crappy mattress. I'm going to go shopping for that mattress soon. Lack of sleep makes a person gain too.

Vicious cycle.

Right now all I can think about is going mushroom hunting. Ralphie! You and your pictures! Lol.

There you go BC..

BC my son bought a mattress off Amazon that comes in a bag/box you set it free, it expands for 24 hours and it is a real mattress, I think he paid 300 bucks for it.. He, like us, is tired of paying 2 grand for a mattress that last a year or two and gets potholes in it.

At 300 bucks a year he figures he can change it every year and save money. I am in agreement. We spent 2500 three years ago and the mattress is nearly unusable now. Of course, you can't even flip them anymore to extend their life...

We have a narrow old staircase with a turn on the top so we cannot get a mattress upstairs, (large one anyways) so we are going to get one of those in a box and open it upstairs and cut it apart when we decide to get rid of it. The bag it is in is real small. It's amazing.

Yeah - In twenty years I have put on twenty pounds - a symptom of aging and needing to keep moving more than I do. I have no excuses. I used to be physically a fox. Ah the memories.

I accept that my body and attitudes keep changing. Its all an adventure. I have lived long enough to experience it and wonder what the next twenty years will bring.

H m m m m Ralphie - where would I find this mattress? Mattress-in-a-box? Smart financial move. The last mattress we bought I worked at Becker Furniture World. The mattress set was $2,800. The mattress rep decides IF you can purchase one at manufacturer cost. I paid $420 ! Incredible! Not going to happen again. $300 sounds good. And he says it is comfortable?
