Good morning! It was raining this morning when I got up. Now just a gloomy gus kind of feel....and the %&! Tourists have arrived in droves....I am watching them all from my window at the post office. eeewwww....... we haven't even gotten our extra no trespassing signs up yet! (because they don't seem to see the other dozen we have up now!) We did not move far enough into the woods. According to the locals...there is no "far enough" into the woods if I am looking to get away from tourists. They find us no matter where we are. great.
So my Cochin is definitely not broody anymore but my Wyandotte is still sitting on 4 eggs (I got to look without losing a finger) and I did see her come out and eat and drink so I feel much better about her sitting.
Got another load of dirt yesterday and filled the other side of the greenhouse beds...I did not realize just how much room I have in there! I have my tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, dill, thyme and peppers planted and I still have 3/4 of the south side free and the entire center bed free to plant more good stuff!! I need to plant my onion shoots, carrots and beans which will take care of the rest of the side bed but I am trying to decide what to put in the middle? My strawberries are up in baskets above the center bed so their fruit will hang down and be easy to pick.
My rhubarb, blackberries, chives, parsley, Lemon Balm, catnip, and Yarrow have been planted outside so far. My pallet board fence is almost complete....it's getting to look like a real garden

I remember when we lived up there, the tourist were terrible. When I was stationed there I lived one block off the harbor in Grand Marais... I never thought a small wilderness town could hold that many people..After a couple years there I moved to Tofte, just above the airport.. I was a little nervous living that close to an Airport and all, but the jets never woke me at all during the night...

And it was more peaceful than Grand Marais was..

Siggie: I still need to go into our local grocery store to get meat for our trip. I can't wait for that poop show. Time to get camping and get fishing. 6 more hours people.
Our town is tiny, but already it is busting at the seams with touri. All the neighbors are up. We're getting out of dodge. Chicken friend watching chickens and chicks. I'm set.

Yes. Congratulations to your daughter MoM. She'll be a fun one to watch I bet these coming years.
Fun to see them have success. No doubt.

Been watching chick TV last night and this AM. The ameraucanas are a little leary of the hand in the brooder. So will need to work on that with some meal worms or other treats I guess. Finally a little rooster came over and took some short grass shoots from my fingers. We'll work it out.

Ralphie, I would say if you really enjoy the Legbars it would be a worthwhile project to develop a rosecomb variety of them. Who cares what others in that group would think ?
You would be doing something to please yourself and it would be a service for Northern chicken keepers. I am sure that Jerry could be of assistance with the genetics.

Siggie, I feel your pain as relates to the tourists. they are not all bad, but it only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole barrel.

Ralphie must be busy hunting for fungi, or maybe he has gone up North to his cabin to visit the Sasquatch family ?

Just a few more hours until I leave to fish for the weekend of fishing .
Funny you still call them tourists . Most are in state owners anymore . I call them weekenders . Every weekend the lake and town is overrun with them .

So been in and out of the hospital stupid ms. Lost 3 fluffy butts. Both favorelles and a Black now have them on medicated feed and electrolites. The picture I'm sharing has the 3 in before they passed sorry. I just can't make it down the stairs by my self atm to take a new one

I'm still at state right now, first day didn't go so well.. It was so windy, I came around the curve in the 300 hurdles amd it hit you like a wall.. that slowed me down quite a bit and I missed making finals by about .2 seconds. Next year though my goal is top 5 in finals so I'll work towards that. I knew our relay wouldn't make it into finals but we did get 16th overall which wasn't to bad considering the wind again. Today is high jump and hopefully i can bring home some hardware with that.

You are correct Jerry in your assessment of the weekenders. We're getting down to just a few motels and fishing resorts to have a small percentage of tourists. The majority do drive to an owned cabin. We dont underestimate though their economic shot in the arm. Local economy is pretty fragile. Those folks are much needed.
But getting old I don't like lines and I like the parking spots next to doors, etc. etc. and I like people not in a hurry and with certain friendliness. Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes. P. S. you know you are part of our town... happy Saturday all. I'm going walleye fishing on the big lake. Can't wait!
