Surviving Minnesota!

Update on the cocci outbreak. I only lost the 2 chicks. We gave corrid from Sunday thru Thursday. Washing the waterer with bleach solution everyday. On friday everyone was given electrolytes and probiotics. We will be repeating the process next week. Today, we are cleaning and spraying down with ammonia. Apparently, ammonia kills cocci but ordinary bleach does not? Anyother suggestions?

Thanks for the additional info, BC.

Siggie, what were you selling at the farmer's market - eggs?

Yep, eggs and a bunch of live plants...3 different types of tomatoes, pumpkin plants, melon plants, and then some herb plants. My goal is to grow, dry and sell my own dried herbal tea blends...hopefully next year I will be up and running that venture! and then I will sell my surplus veggies.

Siggie I wish we had a farmers market around here like that. Ours is like $275 a year... Plus stall space.
this just started 2 years ago in our area so it's still very small, only 7 vendors. But the turnout on customers was amazing! We even have some local people come down and play their fiddle/banjo and guitar!! A real home town feel, I love this place!

Anyone new here that I have failed to welcome aboard previously I hereby welcome.
Holms I will pay you a dollar for that cat if you will deliver. Forget Ralphie. That is a lot of money to pass up where a cat is concerned, and no I will not let the Fisher get it ! My son saw the Fisher at the end of the driveway when he came home the other evening. If the thing acquires a taste for any of my livestock he will be sorry for only a short time.

Ralphie when you live in the Minnesota Banana Belt you are forced to deal with the crazies from the TC and suburbs. I can say this as I have lived there at one time. Things are more expensive ( even the farmers market fees ), but you could always sell some bananas to compensate. Buy them at Qwik Trip and quadruple the price. They are Minnesota bananas of premium quality. After all you picked them in Minnesota didn't you ?

Mr. Segler is obviously overworked while in state. Either that or he has no internet service ? hope his project is going better this year than last.

On my way to a wedding in Thief River. Then stopping at "da farm" by Momofmanys (I'll wave as we drive by) :D

I paid for premium membership at least a week ago! What is up with that??!
I was hoping to have a better experience on BYC with PM. Now it's worse

And my emojis don't show up.

Please contact [email protected] with all the details of your payment and we'll look into it.

Regarding "Now it's worse": Can you provide more details in a new thread in our
in our troubleshooting section here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/conversion-problems-bugs-issues.16183/

Regarding "And my emojis don't show up": Showing up where? We need more details to help duplicate and solve the problem.

It is too bad it's not working. Without the membership I find the site unbearably slow..
Can you provide more details on the system you are using? Are you using the mobile site in a browser, or one of the mobile apps? (it would be best to start a thread in the section mentioned above since we don't usually read through these sections for problem reports)

Ed I just got this message from Jerry. He's plugging away at the new cabin. I should go out there take some photos for you all. He's getting into his messages obviously but he can't post on our Minnesota site...
"Well BYC still has me shut out . So here is a up date . Footings are poured . Tuesday they are to start laying blocks . Took a couple of days off to rest the knee , Knee is improving . Milled 2 logs today . 1 or 2 logs a day is about enough for the knee . I will have enough floor joists milled soon . 2 x 10 x 14' are heavy . Copy and paste on the MN thread if you wish ."
He had asked about removing some notifications and after he did so he said he was locked out.

I think navigating the new site can be a bit tricky. I have to find Surviving by going to my profile no serching my content. . I find it less intuitive.. but I think I'm having an okay go of it. I suppos I'll figure out better ways.

Sylvia has a flap of skin on her almost scalped head from the rooster. I have a teenage girl that wants me to ditch a beautiful welsummer rooster and keep a 5 year old spent hen. Near as I can figure he is fighting her like he would fight a competing rooster...? Anybody else seen such aggression on a hen by a rooster before? She lays down to him ...submits. He does not mate her just whacks the crap out of her tearing at her head. Bizarre.

Good morning all.
Bogtown I take your daughters side, I'd whack the rooster because he's mean.

To get onto surviving mn I go to forums and just scroll down, then click the dot for last post read.

He is good to all the hens except Sylvia. And he has not once people -attacked me, kids visitors. Just Sylvia. But yes. He is mean to sylvie. I'm thinking the brooder chick I picked from the classroom hatch is a little cockerel. He's looking pretty dark.

That's just what I think I'd do, you obviously can do what you want ;)
I guess if the rooster is that valuable to the flock maybe the best decision would be to cull Sylvia so she's not suffering his attacks. :hugs
