Well I was a nosy neighbor and went over to Jerry's basement. Looking good with 6 courses of block. I sent photos per request, stepped in some wet gooey cement that had just been washed off something with my flip flops so went down to the dock and dipped my toes in for a wash. LOL. (MNChickMom I thought of you with your cement) Looking good and he'll have some great views when it's done.

Did a Brainerd Run for feed and Dog food last night and of course.

Stopped at Big Lots for my Coconut oil for soaping ($12 for a huge bottle of it 1/2 price of Costco btw) They have King Mattresses there...Serta Sleepers $569 and $669. I have not done any comparison shopping....Is this a good deal anybody? I think it might be. DH and I are starting to get achy from that dumb king mattress that is too old and has valleys.

I have no idea what a good price is on a mattress. All I know is we always seem to get taken on them. I plan to buy cheaper ones from now on and change more often, The expensive ones seem to break down as fast as the cheap ones...

I think I am going to do a feed run. I was worried about rain but it looks like I have a couple hours of rain free time on the radar.

Here are some things I learned recently . The big excavator did a great job clearing brush and small trees . They rent mini excavators . My next go to for clearing . Nobody will rent the bobcat bushhog attachment . People will just tear them up trying to do too big of trees . Next I was on Mn craigslist and saw spray foam insulation tank/applicator for sale .Partial tank . Said he bought it at Menards . So you can do it yourself . Was planning on having that type done . Great idea for small jobs like chicken coops I would think .

That's a bummer about not being able to rent the brushhog attachment. My husband says he needs a brushhog as soon as we move, and I was going to tell him to rent one.

BC - that sounds like a pretty good mattress price to me. Ours is a few years old already, but I seem to remember decent queen mattresses being $800+. What kind of soap do you make?

I know someone with a bobcat brush hog. The problem is I am so far from you, Jerry, it would cost more to haul it back and forth than having someone do it or buying a used one.

Eileen is back, but I could not get the picture I wanted to post. I have major problems getting this format to do what I want..

Thank you Nikasha. I was told by DH to get more online pricing. But a local furniture store wanted me to call for pricing. Serta (made in the USA) is a good mattress I'm thinking too? IDK...looked sort a good quality like. Slumberland said they would match a price I believe. But if Big Lots! has a straight up good price and I can skip haggling then I'll just get it. They are an investment. But if we're achy...I think we'll just bite the bullet here. We've had our bed...this is embarrassing...almost 18 years. It's been a good one up until about 2 years ago. Now it's aging DH and I.

I make Cold process soap. I add a few other oils to my recipes for their different benefits. Fragrances and colors that I like. It's sort of an art and craft I like zoning out and doing. I have a few orders now though. I like orders. It helps pay for my supplies...but then I can't make it in my own slow pace either. LOL.

Try setting out fly bait. It is not deadly to any animal that can vomit, but it will kill a coon almost instantly. I wait until I put up all my animals and tell the neighbors I'm putting it out. It will make other animals sick. The next morning your coon will be dead.. You just mix it with some juice or sugar water.

Fly bait will kill a dog. It happened to my neighbor. So I would assume if it will kill a dog, other animals would also be at risk. I'd be very careful about putting out poison of any kind.

I have tried this . It does work but I no longer use it . They catch on to just about every method I have tried . So far the dog proof traps work the best . None have caught on to the danger . Just fill the tube with bait plus a little spilled . I use pelleted feed for bait . They get free food for awhile then trip the trigger when the feed is about gone . Safe and effective .

That is why I tell my neighbors I am putting it out, and I only put it out for the night. I'm sorry about your neighbors dog. I don't normally use poison, but I would rather it be the coon than my chickens. We have put out box traps before, but they already knew what it was, and that didn't work. It will make other animals extremely sick, but most will be fine if they were previously in good health. I still tell all the neighbors, because I don't even want them getting sick. I really would rather relocate them but they won't touch a trap. Very smart creatures. I NEVER leave it out during the day or every night. Only when I have a predator lurking and can't get it in a trap.

I would never relocate an critter that is in a yard eating chicken...You are just moving your problem to someone else...Beings I live in the middle of a state and federal forest, I get every PETA nutcase that lives in the city and does not want the coons in their yards. bring them up here and drop them in mine......

I have often thought we SHOULD relocate our poor, starving coons to the Cities. Think about it - unlimited dumpsters to dive in, cat food left out overnight, and I've heard that there are even people who feed coons ON PURPOSE! They'd have such an easy life. They'd never have to find their way into a coop and go to all the effort of catching chickens again. They'd be in the lap of luxury.
