Surviving Minnesota!

We plan on about 200 feet of privacy fence and then 2x4 wire fencing on each side of that as far as we can legally go to the lake and however the length on the other side.
The guy is a real know-it-all, not easy to talk to and his wife isn't friendly at all. I wanted to have a gate in the fence to be neighborly but now I don't think so. He owns a concrete business and has all the heavy equipment and he must think jake brakes are cool so we have to listen to that as he comes and goes. Their dog came into our yard twice this evening just after I penned up my girls.
No gate. I've had to put hardware cloth overt the neighbors gate as wild animals kept getting in from his yard to mine as he always leaves his outer gate open. The last straw was the skunk.

Welcome emkawa. Hello Chickeners. I am still very upset as I went up to Aitkin overnight, purposely left the covered coop door open and all went very well. I was refilling waters, cleaning them and Rosie, who has been out more and more with her chicks came back into the covered coop. One chick came in with her and the other missed the door and went under the fence and between the covered coop and the Rapunzel building. I was on my way out to shoo it back in with mama when along came one of my little dogs and I could see that he was going after the chick. I was yelling at him 'No! Leave it! Get away!' He killed it! I have not taken the time to be heart broken yet. He knows that his life as he knew it is over. He is a real big lap dog and mine was the best. He does not even dare whine while locked outside. Man! I want to kill the dog! I am surprised I am so over the top on this.

:hitThanks erlibrd. I lost a chick and I am determined to lose a dog! Starting to feel sadness instead of anger. The dog would not follow my command. That really upsets me!

I hear you on this one. When my dog doesn't listen, I get irate. He is trained and knows better... poor little chick.

Good morning chickeners . . . . i apologize for my rant last night. I am still determined to get rid of the dog. Which method that happens by will develop. If I can re-home him by this Thursday then he lives. He is not a bad dog and I have settled enough to know that chickie makes a sound like a chippie and if it were a chippie and he did that I would have praised him. Its more that he did not obey me when I told him no. Would you keep a dog that did that?
Its going to be a beautiful day and I will work outside today. So hope each of you have a good day.

I'm sorry lvie.

Training Sadie Mae and Jasmine before her was a PITA but I'm glad I did it.

I would go crazy knowing I had to watch the birds and the dog all the time.
I would not rehome the dog. I'd spend time with it and your birds. This is a bold statement on this particular site but the dog is of more value than a chick. Farm accidents happen. If it happens all the time making issues then it's a different story.
Anyways my humble opinion only.

Erli. Our neighbor is a know it all too. Putting up a monstrous garage now that will no doubt be the same ugly color as the cabin. Grow new Norway pines. grow.
