Surviving Minnesota!

Goodmorning... At Rollag this weekend so won't be on much... Anybody else going to Rollag/WMSTR?
We went to Rollag yearly for many, many years. My sons grew up going there. Skipping it this year as we just got home a couple of weeks ago from an extended trip to Alaska. Have fun and take a ride on the train for me!

Which "swap" and where? I might have to give it a try someday.

My Mom is there look for a senile old woman with some square dancers dressed in funny clothes...

I went for a stroll in the woods this morning. It was a worthwhile stroll.

For you non-mushroomers. The large ones are Hens. I only found them at the base of one oak, I think the shrooms are late this year, the mosquitoes and poison Ivy where right on time..

The bottom right are Black trumpets, my first time finding them. I will be eating one in about 3 minutes.

The other two are a Bollete of some type, I am 80% sure they are safe to eat. I will do spore prints and throw these away. I have a book that tells you what Bolletes to not eat, these are not listed in them. The color and bruising appear to make them edible. The only way to be sure now is spore prints and serving Judy a meal of them on the sly...If she is ok next week they are fine! :lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

We went to Duluth to eat last night, it was my daughters Birthday. I am now officially old, She is 40. I cannot believe I have a 40 year old kid....

Nothing new on the chicken front. Layers sorry about the lack of rain and predators. May the predators die a painful death, soon.:thumbsup
You're hilarious! We know not to eat any homemade mushroom dishes from you - lol. :sick

Didn't you find any bananas or coconuts growing in the woods while on your stroll? :lau

The swap meet we go to is Wright County Swappers Meet in South Haven. It's the largest seasonal outdoor market in MN. Funny, when we lived in Northfield, we used to drive about 80 miles to get to it. Now, it's probably less than 5 miles up the road from our house! We opted not to go today after all, as my knees are pretty sore and I didn't feel like doing that much walking. Went out and weeded the shrub bed instead. Somehow I think I would have enjoyed the swap meet more!

BC. I think you need to take the MENSA test!

I picked up some injectable B complex vitamins today and some oral B12 for my swine as that is what the label said I could use it on.

I gave the pullet that has been limping and down for a few days a shot of B complex, consider it a loading dose. A little more than I should have, I am sure.

I have been watering this pullet with a syringe and dropping the water in it's mouth until she swallows. A complete PITA.

After I gave the shot, I went and monkeyed with the other one that is down. He is in worse shape and I am amazed he is alive. I gave him a larger loading dose. I work on the theory a little is good for you for more is better and even more is best.....

I then gave the B12 orally to the rooster and put him back. I went to the cage the pullet was in, about 5 minutes had passed, so not much time. The pullet was standing and drinking from the drinking cup. Her leg was under her and she was trying to stand n it but not bearing weight. It was slightly forward but not that bad.

I am guardedly optimistic she will live. I asked Judy if she had seen her stand and she said she had not for several days either.

I know it seems real fast and might (read most likely is) a coincidence, but it gives me hope.

If all they needed was B vitamins and I just culled some that did not need it, I am going to go on a guilt trip and need adult beverages.

I will be giving them regular doses and not loading ones starting tomorrow.
