Surviving Minnesota!

Whoever it was the recommended sunflower seeds for a chick treat, thank you! After carrying around the can of seeds every time I see them, the rooster will come running if he sees me. Still working on longer out-of-sight distances but so far so good. And all but one will eat out of my hand (ouch).

Dad is good Lvie. He spent his last night in the nursing home last night. One of the RN's looked at him and said, "You really don't need to be here. You're doing great." So I guess he's no longer a fall risk. PT has done it's job. He was staying nights there as a stipulation for Medicare coverage on PT. He sees the doc today to get a discharge around 1;30. And smart as he is says that will be after 3 right? I said, "yeah." See you tonight.

You are a good woman walking away from the crap-ola. Sounds like you did that a number of years ago and then again this weekend. And everybody else in support. Sometimes negative energy can push all the good stuff away. I always try to remember that.

I guess Sparky, the black cockerel with gold wings tried spurring DD last night with his nubbins'. It will be good to have you back next week, Jerry! LOL.

I was heartbroken when Queen Lizzie disappeared. I would be even more devastated if Cuddles was to disappear. I have no rooster of any breed that is as friendly as Cuddles is. I find it hard to find a hen friendlier than Cuddles.

I want some Cuddle's and Queen Lizzie's court's eggs next spring please. Look at that big expensive comb on that Rooster! I can smell the propane heat from here!!!!

The coons are on the loose again! My husband decided to go BAHAING (offroading) a bit with his vehicle to attempt to kill a large coon also. Instead he dug up our grass.

On the chicken note. I first thought buy from a "big commercial hatchery" and get the perfect order of birds. I soon learned my lesson when over 3/4 of my buff orps were cockerels and they sent a "substitute breed" because the barred rock were not available on ship date, and they sent a silver laced wyndotte that was missing a toe. THen I complained on this thread....and low and behold I met Ralphie who had Speckled Sussex.....from there the rest is history. I have learned more about proper care, handling, biosecurity etc. from networking and through this thread....I also learned that bleach is a chicken owners new BFF.

My husband brought home "Leo" last night, boy can he crow, a nice deep low crow. He had the whole barn a crowing this morning even though nobody could see him and he couldn't see anyone. Leo is a toad rooster from Ralphie, hopefully in a few weeks after his quarantine is over he will jump start the toad girls into laying and giving me pretty little toad babies. The toad girls are 5 months old and 2 of the 3 have bright red combs so hopefully, my plan works.

The coop/hatchery addition is moving slower than molasses in January....waiting on the excavator....supposedly he won't dig water lines until the rain slows down. So if I could ask a favor of everyone? If you see a rain cloud please take a big breath of air and blow it to the west, everyone would be happy. :hmm:yesss:
Toad chicken/rooster - what's that? I can't say I've heard of that breed before!
