Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning to all you poultry lovers. Up here above the Minnesota Banana Belt, it is demonstrating that winter is just around the corner. Low temps this AM in the 20s.
Time to get serious about the winter ready chores.
Now that pigeon racing is done I will have some time to go Grouse hunting, but not for the one which walked across my back yard late yesterday afternoon. It lives in a designated sanctuary.

Good morning all. Beautiful weekend it was. We reached peak colors here.
The boat got pulled. DS and I moved a fairly large pile of wood to my parents' patio for easier winter access, prepared a dinner party for 8 Saturday, Sunday was a lazy day for me but the boys had a pheasant shoot at the Pheasant farm. Sadie flushed birds but she did not retrieve them for fear they were chickens DH thinks. So I got the stink eye on that one. But he was pleased with the chicken bowling (pheasant flushing) skills she has... oh boy. Weird thing is is that she will retrieve ducks without issue. I think she'll get it. Another year.
Dad had his cyberknife procedure for the last smaller tumor in his brain. This was done at Miller Dwan in Duluth. Quite the procedure. Easy, successful we think. Tumor is located in the visual control center of the brain so precision required. He may need another 1-2 treatments but then it's done. Recheck in 2 weeks. Amazed.
Pheasant Pot Pie last night thanks to my hunters with a little nod to my chicken bowler.

Holy smokes does that look good!!! :plbb

Morning.
I flushed 3 grouse yesterday while hunting mushrooms. I would have had a decent shot at one, a semi-decent shot at another and no shot at the third.

The pepper plant in Saint Judy's tractor tire is drooping a tad, it might have gotten cold here last night.

I have to go test some chickens this week, Mike is allowing this woman to entry late for Hutch.

Good morning... It got a little cold last night. Down to 28 degrees.... Lots of frost this morning. Gonna get the coop winterized this weekend.... I have been thinking about how I am going to keep water thawed this winter and I think I know how. @R2elk uses a compost method and I was wonder if I could fill a shorter tub with manure and hollow out the middle for a bucket? Not sure yet... I will have to think of a few things... I won't have any birds locked up come November... I think I'll Locke birds up the middle of December... Not sure... ugh...

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Yes, those fall chores are calling loud and clear. Very crisp this a.m. The days are flying by! Again!
Little Ony, the sick chick, is beginning to thrive. Remember I put her in a small kennel by my back door with fermented food and apple cider water for the weekend when I left ten days ago? While, all the funny burping and stretching her neck has seemed to disappear. Just this weekend I noticed she looks like she may be putting on a little weight. So I am pretty happy about all of that.

Hi Holm - you have probably seen and tried this already - the tire packed with insulation and a bucket for water in the middle. I have not tried it and hear the results are positive from what I have read. IDK :hmm
