Surviving Minnesota!

ChicksMN, if you are wanting only six chicks and don't wish to pay an unreasonable amount for them then a local breeder would seem to be the most logical option.
Best to go with someone who is NPIP if possible. Someone who selects for egg production, longevity and proper breed characteristics.
The earlier in the spring you get them the sooner they will come into lay.
Silkies are not really chickens. They are a breed of Foo Foo bird. I would suggest a Parakeet as an alternative.

Good morning everyone

We sold calves yesterday at Lemmon. We should have gotten decent prices, but not sure since we hsd to leave early so I could make it back in time for practice.

I have 20-30 roosters 1 is plum loco.....But not dangerous.

Some love to be held. Even the two MnChickmom brainwashed into trying to kill me have come around. I actually had them on my lap for about a half an hour each while I put on their lotions and combed their feathers. They also got pedicures. They will need a few more for the next week, but they love the handling now.

I will always watch little kids around a Tom or rooster though as they attack smaller things easier than large. They can also sense fear and use that against a person.

As I can add witness to. Tom Hanks, A Barred Rock Roo tried to take out Ralphies two year old grandson. Tom Hanks is no more. He was meaner than the mean - he sure took care of his girls though. My DH and Tom would go the rounds constantly.

Tom Hanks was special.... I still laugh when I think of the "great Garage fight".....

BTW Case in point. Tom Hanks Knew your DH was afraid of him and Tom Hanks owned his soul...

ChicksMN - and anyone else - do you think that if a person wants to end up with six hens they should maybe get the ten. And one other consideration - the breeders chicks are not anymore spendy than those in the hatchery. You can probably pick them and carry them home with you versus waiting for the USPO to call for you to come pick up your chicks - or they die. Teach your little ones how to handle the chicks and then allow them access to the chicks a certain number of times per day. The chicks will grow into calm hens and be their pets plus give you eggs. Anythings possible when it comes to birds. They really are very trainable and intelligent.

Please add Polish to the list of FooFoo's.....

I thought they were cute...They were too dumb to breath on their own. I am so glad to not have them anymore.

@MNChickMom ruined my rep yesterday! I wanted to give them a toad rooster.. I almost had the Son talked into it....BUT the poor brow beaten Hubby kept saying. "the last thing she said was DO NOT BRING ANY BIRDS BACK from him"...

He was actually shaking in his boots,..poor guy..

I have so much cool stuff and things here people should want to take home the junk, I mean stuff I pawn off on them!

If anyone else needs cool stuff, just come here and shop..
