Surviving Minnesota!

Thanks for the info RE order dates. My kiddos are littles yet (all 3 under 5) so no showing at this point. Just lots of toddling up to collect eggs and try to get them back to the house intact :)
just so you know Ideal in TX sells with no quantity limit, just a value ($25)
ETA: though the breeders are going to be waaaaay better quality and after you pay shipping- less expensive
I know he has a thread on them somewhere...
Toad Raising.

Good Morning!
Yesterday, my husband and son had a great visit with ralphie. And for once they didn't come home with any live animals.☺
i didnt know that was possible :lau congrats!

Starting to think about deer hunting . Archery season is in but I usually wait until late October to start . I like to pick my weather and archery season is long . I can hunt the seek and chase phase in early November . Our first gun season is before Thanksgiving . Weather can be bad for the second gun season in early December . I am done by then . Even if I did not get one .

First, do not congratulate her for thwarting my attempts to spread my glorious birds... It will ruin my reputation... People will think everyone can leave here without a bird in tow...

@ChicksMN Be very careful in buying a small number of chicks from Ideal. Just because they will send any number does not mean they should.

They have to be shipped with those "chemical heating pads" I have used them, but they are pretty iffy. they tend to go hot and then cold and the chicks die.

I ship 12-15 birds at a time, I do not ship less than that because the mass of the birds is not enough to keep them warm even in the small boxes.

Because of our climate chick shipping time is kind of limited. Summers get too hot and they die, winters are too cold and they die. Even in the best of times They die.

I shipped some birds to Liz and it took two shipments for her to get the birds and that was in perfect shipping weather. I blame some PETA soul working at the St Paul post office. They seem to leave them on the dock often. I think to teach me to stop mailing chicks.

I have not shipped to Tx so I have no idea what happens there. I do know shipping west is better than shipping east. I guess the PETA person works on the east bound flights.

Come on up here and hunt! The guy hunting in my pasture is seeing deer every evening he goes out...He is waiting for a big one. He had an 8 pointer come by the other night, but he said it ran to a big doe, the doe ran and the buck followed her so he never got a shot off.

Now he thinks he is going to get that buck..LOL

She has not said she wants them..Her loss.

On the SS note, the pullet I thought was going to be too white to show has grown into her white feathers.

I think I have the best of breed with her now, Her Mother was BB last year. She is one that wants to be held. She coos the entire time I hold her. She was not a fan of the Vetrx treatment around her eyes though, or her nail trimming.

Maybe she hadn't thought of the SS. Maybe the virtues of the SS need to be pointed out.
Glad your hen is looking good!!

Hey all. Got the steers hauled in this morning... Now they will hang at the plant for 14 days... Usually would do 21 days but with deer hunting they figured 14... So now we are down two cows. Next we get rid of calves... We will be sorting cattl on the 15th of November and will haul calves in the beginning of December... We have some steers that some feedlots would love... Put them on feed and watch them grow...
