Did anyone else get snow last night?

We got snow, and are still getting some.

We are close to having a flock of only heritage/show quality and homegrown mutts. I have a few old hatchery hens but all except for the Australorps and Cochins are going. Those are my best broodies

I am slowly getting rid of all my hatchery stock too. BUT I will always have some EE mutts around. I have too many roosters with them and they go broody on their own.....

I like keeping the roosters around because they protect the hens so well and only ruin the backs of a couple faves of theirs..

That is my hope in the chanticlers. It is an uphill battle against Mike Gilbert and his buddies. When Mike put his cock in the cage next to Weinerhead, I knew I was in trouble there...

My hens and pullets did better against his then I thought they would, but my highest was 4th in them. out of 9.

I thought I add a chance in the cockerels because of the huge dent/hole in the cushion comb on his...BUT I took second to him... Or well. next year is another chance for me.....Also had my first pen not been stolen I would have had older birds...

Knucklehead did ok, I am going to breed him.

I will always have a few EEs and my own mutts running around. It adds some color and leaves some good layers.

Ralphie maybe it's time to start padlocking pens? After you had birds taken I have been thinking of locking the coop up but only family friends and a handful of you guys know we have birds and only a few of you know where we live! Plus nobody can see birds from the road here. Heck we can't see the road from here!
