Surviving Minnesota!

My Buckeyes came from Meyer hatchery, and I got my Wyandotte's from a lady in WI near Eau Claire I think. She doesn't breed anymore, but her starter stock came from Foley's flock, and were birds she bred from them. They are very big chickens.
You need to find some good breeder Buckeyes! They are nothing like Hatchery Bucks!

Probably just my computer screen then.
Sure enough, I had a filter on my phone. Here are a couiple of pics from today. I like the critique or I wouldn't have asked. Thanks!

My Buckeyes from Urch....are overly curious and overly cuddly... In the batch of 4 I just hatched a couple of weeks ago, all 4 come running to me to be petted/cuddled. Only one problem....I think they are all 4 roosters. :)
My Bucks are pretty friendly too. Especially when young!

Thank goodness for a few warmer days. Got the second feeder up. Removed all the extraneous junk from the coop so there's no more hiding spots for the mice. Cleaned out/off the nesting boxes and put a slant on the top (sorry chicks no more napping up there). Disposed of two mice hiding in the mouse trap with the help of the kittens. Put down some plywood in the worst spots. Put down some vinyl tile on said ply wood (will plywood the rest of the floor eventually and get some linoleum but we had the tiles laying around so why not). Still need to finish insulating and putting up walls and get some straw or something for more bedding. Next summer I'll probably paint the walls. The Brahma Barn is shaping up.

Hello Chickeners . . . . Just finished reading. Congrats to you Holms and Ills on the Venison in the freezer. Ony is still alive! She sure is tenacious. I pulled her into the house and kenneled her just when it got really cold. She was okay but not doing great when I put her back out on Saturday. I expect that she would have gone to Chickie heaven by Sunday morning, then Monday morning. Well, because she continues to live I pulled her back in and started in again on her. I think she will truly be a pet chicken if she survives. I can't just let her die when she obviously wants to live so much. She is taking scrambled egg and polyvisol diluted water.
Her bedding is pine shavings.
Yep - thats about it on the chickens. Otherwise just doin 'stuff' around here to get ready for winter. YOU chickeners are really busy.
