Surviving Minnesota!

Thank you Ralphie and Jerry.

Sadie did get some praise yesterday . And a couple slices of a nice farmer cheese. Lol. And noted that she wasn’t a worthless noisy barking fool that I thought she once was.

BC sorry to read about the fox episode. I always regret not having a gun handy when one of the nuisance predators presents itself. It seems that your dog has performed with honor and distinction in this case.
Warm this morning near the big lake, but the forecast is for more snow. Snow is much preferable to rain at this time of year.

Good morning... Did I ever mention to you guys that I took a judging class weekend on cattle and sheep? When it comes to sheep I have a decent eye but I struggle in cattle. I am not a fan of the big dolled up Cattle? I'm a sucker for a big commercial cow though;):lau

I have another class in January... And then Poultry judging...

Where does one find out about this Poultry judging class?

I am still trying to find it BUT I know that there is one! I know that Jim Adkins does a class but I don't know when he will be coming up here to do one. I was going to message him about it? If there is enough people interested up here I am sure he would do one? He goes over breeding and all sorts of stuff. I have watched ALL of his videos lol!

Thank you Ed & MNchickMom. The dog might be alright yet.

She was snuggling with me early this morning. I was still praising her. and I petted her paws. She growled at me and jumped up. She is nuts yet too. Difficult dog. But she gives us glimmers of hope. Lol.

I did cattle judging in FFA centuries ago. I did pretty good at it. We use to have district and regional competition then state back then. Do they still do that?

I did first in the district and 2nd as I recall at regional, but they would not let me go to state because I had won the "grain identification and grading" competition...(yep, us farm kids did stuff like that)......

They would only let you go to state in one "division" so I was forced to do grain.

The one thing I could never do was the Dairy Cow judging that was done yearly on Hoards Dairyman Magazine. Pictures are hard for me to judge.

Does that still exist?

X2..... I wanna know too!

BC I think Sadie was scaring the fox away again. Give her more cheese!

EJB, I never have a firearm when I see the rotten coyotes around here.

Story Time:

Setting: Our Home - backyard
Time: Saturday December 16th 6:15am

Prelude: I saw a fox earlier in the week and heard coyotes yipping/hollowing for a week.

All is calm, I am sleeping in the recliner as to not wake the rest of the house with my coughing. I hear a yip or howl....I pass it off as I was dreaming because I took some good Nyquil. All of a sudden the noise of a predator call is screaming through my house. My husband is flying out of the bedroom, taking the stairs 2 at a time to grab the gun. My son is on his heels screaming, "I can't find the 22... where are the keys to the gun cabinet?" Soon I hear my husband holler, "False alarm, it is a speaker blaring predator calls directly at our house." Sure enough there was a hunter or truck load of hunters on the neighbors property, trying to draw the fox/coyote from our woods.

While I am not upset that the hunters are taking care of the predators. Please let the neighboring land owner know if you are going to draw predators across their property. Heck we might even give you permission and open gates for you.
