Surviving Minnesota!

Anyone else on here hang something over where the birds roost to help
Keep them warm? I've seen one online that they called a roost hood. Not a heat source but more like added insulation. I'm curious what your experiences are with something like that if you have. Wondering f it's a good idea to drop/hang something above the girls that would
Hold their body heat closer to them
While
The colder air flows above them. However, I'm
Also concerned that it would cause more moisture to hover above the girls and cause more issues with frostbite... Hoping to get it sorted out before the next deep freeze in the next few days. :0

I do, but it is pretty high up above their head. it keeps the air around them a little warmer, still allows the ventilation to run up from the west side (which is lower than the east) and out. I do have a seedling mat hanging on the wall behind their roost, I think that helps keep the humidity down.

I used to think that the seedling mat did nothing, but one morning when it was pretty cold and I had not turned on the flat panel heater, they were all facing the wall for the slight heat. funny. The seedling mat is just barely warm, but keeps the wall behind them from getting cold.

Here is an old photo... If I remember I can try and get another later.

Yes, they are spoiled...

I regret to inform you that I have become accustomed to and desensitized to the current weather conditions. The only real complication is keeping the birds with soft water. I have 9 different pens to deal with, and that is a lot of water containers to contend with when the water becomes too hard for the birds to consume.
In the old days when I was young and partying it always seemed that New Years Eve would be -20 or less. We may have that this year ? Now in my advanced years and more rational behavior patterns I will be attending a New Years Eve party at the Black Bear Casino. A special invitation party with lobster, fillet minion and more. Special gifts and drawings for cash prizes. My wife and I will give our free drink tickets to someone younger or of less rational mind than we are. I do hate to contribute to the irrational behavior of others, but they seem to appreciate it. I tell the Mrs. that this party is for large annual contributors to the benefit of the native enterprise, and she qualifies. I of course am just along for the ride, as I am a conservative contributor.

Living in the Banana zone like we do is sure rough...We have to express empathy and sometimes sympathy for those not in our tropical clime. Those up north, I feel the pain of your nasty cold weather....

Those down south, I feel the pain of your nasty snowy weather....Be careful when shoveling the snow, Way too many men die shoveling snow...I suggest you all have your wives shovel for you......:gig:gig:gig:gig:gig
