Surviving Minnesota!

EJB I'm not quite a hillbilly. Just felt bad for the Bantam Cornish... They couldn't take the -1 in the coop... So I brought them inside. BUT they are going back right away! All my other Bantams are doing great in the cold including the Silkies. I don't think Cornish are made for our Minnesota weather so they may go... Idk... I am a sucker for the tiny fufu breeds and have been looking at some Black Cochin Bantams but can't decide if I want some or not...
They can't handle -1?? Wussy birds. Shame, they are quite pretty.

Oh and so far our best cold hardy birds are our Sumatras. Even our Buckeyes got some frostbite on their peacombs! The Sumatras have been te least effected by the cold...
The Ameraucanas are doing the best, except the cock which seems to be a chronic sicky. The Chantecler cockerels have some but not much.

I am so happy! That could be the first Toad of the year!

Katy. the neighbor girl is hatching right now and none of her toads made it either.

My outdoor toads have not left the "topper" in 2 weeks. They have a coop, they refuse to go in. I have water in there heated. They eat snow instead.

I can be as stubborn as them. I carry their feed to them in the topper, I WILL NOT CARRY THEM WATER THERE TOO! They can go inside if they want a drink. Or EAT SNOW!

Ralphie, how did your radio interview go ? Did you have any questions about freemartins or bull heifers ?
What is the seeming key issue or issues in your district ?
The PCs probably will not return to laying until some time in February I would guess. The right combination of day light and warmer temperatures will dictate this.
Jerry wins the first post award today. Jerry, are you sure that you are not still on daylight saving time ?

Morning..
The radio went well. They said when the time was arranged I would only get 20 minutes of air time. The booking guy, said they rarely keep anyone longer than that, as they then take calls from listeners...

When the 20 minutes was up they asked me if I wanted to take calls from listeners, I did, so I stayed the entire hour.

EJB:
The issues are really localized in the district. The district is so large the concerns vary. In Wright county, the I94 addition/St. Cloud by pass is a big thing. In Southern Sherburne county it is the closing of the power plant in Becker. In rural Sherburne and Benton county it is Farm issues, In NW Benton county it is irrigation, water shed and the DNR. In Morrison county it is Ditching I hear about most.

In all the areas Schools and education is important, Taxes and spending and refugee resettlement and immigration issues. When I am not out politicking I am studying the issues and looking for workable solutions we can implement on the state/district level.

Then, of course, for me it is what to do with spoiled rotten chickens! My old grinder went kaput. So I got a new one, the birds do not like the grind the new one makes, it is too fine for they spoiled little tastes. They cannot pick out the big pieces and force me to throw the fines away.

They will be starving before I change grinders for them. Of course, they eat enough eggs to keep from starving too soon.....

SPOILED CHICKENS FOR SALE!!! do not expect any eggs from them. You will get egg shells daily though.
