Surviving Minnesota!

Get your husband to the Hutchinson show this fall. My family siblings weren’t a fan of birds until that show and now they are addicted. Plus there is quite a few BYCers that go!
Okay this sounds great!!! I’ll do my best!

Also, I’m hoping to try more of the recommended breeds once these guys get older and maybe the dear man sees that aren’t that nice or great as the “stats” make them seem. I don’t care about extremely high egg production if they are jerks. I already have a cat that only attacks me and leave me with bite marks...I can’t (well don’t) eat cat but I can eat chicken.

I have heard so much good about the SS!

I just checked the MN poultry association website. They don't have the 2018 show posted but if my aging memory remembers correctly...they said the 2018 show would be on October 27th with cooping in happening on October 26th. ------ The only reason I remember this is a certain daughter of mine....thinks because it is her birthday weekend...I will buy her more birds and a regular birthday present!

This post brought me back in time (ok just a few weeks ago). We are studying for 4H Poultry Knowledge Bowl....the volunteer who leads our group says, "What are giblets?" without a pause or missing a beat one of the youth members says, "The stuff you give to Grandma". Our team name soon became "Granny's Giblets".

Can't wait for State meet on April 7th!
:lau. Our teams are called the Platypi and the Kiwi's. We have regionals this Saturday. :wee

Best of luck!!!

Also, I looked up those Speckled Sussex....those are gorgeous birds! I think I may accidentally order some...

I recomment "ordering" from Duluth Ralphie. He is a breeder of SS. We had 3 SS from him and they all were magnificant birds. (Unfortunately, all were cockerels.) To prove their calm temperment, my daughter who was either 10 or 11 at the time showed 2 of them in the market pen as a meat bird. They were a hefty 6-7 pounds each. She picked one up in each hand and carried them to the Show arena. Never once did they balk at each other.
