StringBean: Okay that's right you mention the epoxy. I've been looking at that for a flooring option in our basement because we have air ducts that like to fill with water in the spring....

So no carpet down there in the plans. From what I learned it sets relatively fast... But first you need to 'etch' the cement to receive the product. so I don't know if that's like a chemical roughing up of the cement. So my worry is ...is it the right surface for that product? Will it all slide down and not adhere...? IJDK... does a person put up cement backer boards?
As far as coverings on the nest boxes...I don't have them and it does not bother the birds. Really -- only if you want to encourage broodiness (and not have egg laying) then leave them on. Hens do like dark recesses for eggs but I can about guarantee you they'll still use them.
