Morning:

The heat has taken it's toll. I lost Ed and the oldest Toad rooster yesterday, along with a younger one and an old hen.

They seem to do better in the below freezing than in the 95+ plus range.

I could use the help of a Holm also Erlibrd, please share him.


I hope Camboy enjoys the lake.

Poor poor ed. Apparently zombie birds can't survive in the heat. Who knew?

Sorry to read about your losses Ralphie. The birds may not be fully adjusted to this heat and it makes for problems.
Mine are lucky to spend a lot of time in the shade under the trees, and they don't seem to be bothered much although egg production is off a little. A few of my hens have started the summer molt.
I am currently attempting to catch a Weasel. He has not caused any damage thus far (knock on wood) but I have seen him. Didn't have any problems with them when I had cats, but the Fisher got the cats. Everything is on someone else's menu ?

I arrived home to discover that two of the OEGB eggs I was incubating for my aunt had hatched two days early!! Seems like the banties always do that. The little quail are doing great. And Icelandic hens are starting to pick up. I was talking to my mom and she said when she was growing up they always WANTED hens to set as they didnt have an incubator. In order to break mine from being broody, I have to collect the eggs religiously. Though I think sometimes they believe they are setting on eggs when there is absolutely NOTHING.

Sorry to hear about Ed. Everyone thinks I'm overdoing it with fans, misters & wading pools...but heat kills. I don't even show dogs in the heat of the summer. Just too dangerous.
