Surviving Minnesota!

When I went out to feed the flock this morning one SS was staying in the coop and didn't come out to eat so I went and got her to see if something was wrong and found lice on her, I couldn't find the stuff I'd bought years ago in case something like this happened so I got the neem oil and mixed it in a spray bottle and soaked her pretty good. I've checked some of the others and didn't find any more bugs or eggs but ordered a powder and spray from amazon. When Angel died the other day I didn't see any on her but wasn't looking for anything like that because she was old I think she just died of old age.

Too bad we'll be out of town when you're all getting together just down the road.

Here are the 5 I have left. The pullets by choice, the cockerel because the one I wanted to keep ran into the woods. This one was nearly dead at hatch so I'm hesitant to use him as a breeder. My rooster is awfully red, so was hoping for dark. 10 weeks.

Ralphie did you take Ed up on the offer to see POTUS?!
I’ll watch tv to see if I see you.

So sorry Erli. 6 years is pretty good. :hugs

Layers I love that NoDak boat and the ingenuity of what you’ve done there!

I was in a Parade when he was here, passing out candy, kissing babies and shaking hands..........sorta

I've been getting very few eggs....like I think 3 eggs in 2 weeks. A few days ago I found some moldy feed in feeder where it apparently leaks....any other suggestions?

In March/April was getting 3-4/day.

I washed the White Cochins in Friday. They are a pain to keep clean, but hopefully this means as they get older baths will be easy for them.

I washed the Cochins and one Chantecler I and my younger sister are taking to County Fair. I only am taking 2 cochins this year, next year I am hoping I will be able to max out on cochins alone, so 12 birds.

My birds always lay less in June, I know quite a few of my layers molt in June every year, but my brown egg layers stop to. I think sometimes it might be the heat and humidity, or they are getting fat off of all the bugs and grass causing most not to lay.

So... as luck would have it.. our elderly chicken gran passed away. She was my 5 yr old Evan's best friend. Dotty the speckled sussex from erli has stepped up into the position of kid bird. Was driving on the high way with the farm truck coming back from running errands. And as I said we have been having some rather horrible luck. Bambi decided to speed and didnt see the truck or hit his brakes quick enough so he folded the fender in the rear. Fell over and knocked cold for a min but got back up and ran. No venison dinner. But I'm sure he is pretty dang sore. Truck is a 2004 f150 rusty but trusty with only liability so not worth a insurance turn in especially since the odometer is finicky so cant read it all the time. Last check was 215k. Speedometer works and all the gauges. Drive er till she dies I say :D
