I sure like that cockerel. His demeanor concerns me though. He doesn't seem to take care of his girls. When they pile up to sleep, he's on bottom rather than top. Doesmt find them treats, just eats them, etc. Maybe that's a youth thing or him making a point of not being too dominant with the roo around.

Most young cockerels are very submissive around hens and won't take a lead role with a dominant cock in the way. Some cockerels stay like this, and some will fight their way in. My two dominant cocks will not let cockerels near the hens, feed them or take care of them at all

The 4 pullets and cockerel effectively have their own flock. They're together with the hens and cock, but steer clear. All of my chickens sleep on the floor of the coop. The older ones in the SE corner, younger in the NW corner.

18 Icelandic eggs due the first week of August. 20 quail eggs due the 30th. More quail eggs going in next week. I have my own quail eggs too but these two batches I am incubating for my aunt.
