Surviving Minnesota!

Hoover is an amazing rooster! He is patiently waiting outside the nest box for his one hen to finish laying an egg so he can do his job and fertilize the next egg! His work effort and dedication amazes even me.

However, I am not sure if his hen is laying an egg or hiding from Hoover. Her eyes showed pure fear when I looked into them.

I'm sure Ralphie. But we're hoping that we've kept the communication lines open enough. And the thing is in these small towns if they don't tell you...somebody else will. Last Christmas we did outfit him with a Vexilar and K-Drill, Milwaukee drill to run that. His fish are still pretty spendy at this time per pound. Just like my chicken hobby I suppose. LOL.
Somebody said not long ago, "Aren't you lucky? Free eggs..." I scoffed at that notion. They looked confused.

Jerry for a water softener in Longville you will need to step up to a Morton mid or high Grain level. The lower Grain one will not do the job or will be kaput in short amount of time. Longville water is atrociously full of iron. Our plumber -a Menards man himself- said to avoid Water Boss.

I am ready for winter to be over....

Hoover's hen laid an egg. She did not eat it! She was roosting on the waterer and Hoover was roosting on the roost. I may have to make a lower roost for Hoover's hen...

Anyways Hoover's hen might have been innocent and just entering the nest to lay an egg..BUT that means there is another egg eater in that pen..

The Toad egg did not make it successfully to the house. I had 4 eggs in the pail. The toad egg, turkey egg, Speckled Sussex egg and a mutt egg.
Again I slipped and the eggs went flying. I caught myself, but the bucket emptied of eggs, except for one of them. Proving once again the only safe place to carry an egg is in the shirt pockets.

This ice is really starting to be a PITA.
