Surviving Minnesota!

I have had better luck than last year with hatching. I have some developing eggs that are set to hatch in the first week of February. I replucked the hens and the cockerel I am using right now. I have decided to stop plucking the 2 pullets, leave them be and have at least 2 birds to show at county and state.

There will be a line up change in the coop!

The Chanticler rooster is out! Not one Chanticler egg was good....

Some of the legbar hens will be out. I am not getting enough eggs from them and they are not exactly what I want in the next generation. I have too many hens for old One eye Jack to handle. I only have 3 good eggs and not getting any lately. I could have an egg eater in there, not sure.

All the dark crested ones are headed to the layer pen.

The SS are doing good. I am not sure if I will hatch anymore or not. He has 15 eggs hatching.

The Dom has 7 hatching, I need more of them. They are not laying well though. I may have to re-assess them. Not sure what changes I would do there.

No good Toad eggs! Disappointing. I hope Hoover helps this, the other rooster could be too young or too dumb.

Finally, only one good turkey egg......darn. I think I will name that one lucky, if it hatches it will be a pet, I am afraid. Lone poults get too attached to people. It could even become a TV watching bird.

The weather and time of year may have something to do with this? Do you have them in a heated coop with light source stimulation ?

Morning -10 during the night . Sunny now high of 18 then low tonight of 15 . I need to work on my incubator . Truck comes first . Got 1 egg yesterday . No lights giving me a break from checking for eggs several times a day .

Why are you getting rid of it, as they are purportedly good machines?
Honestly I like my Farm Innovators 4200 better, even thought it is a plastic incubator. The FI4200 fits almost double the eggs, there is nothing digital in it and you can get parts for it if needed. I am going to get another FI4200 or two today online.

I have them on lights but no heat. The coop/shed is a couple degrees warmer than outside.

I completely understand this is a terrible time of year to gather fertile eggs. Everything is against us.

I am just hoping against hope the spares will be better. In the case of the chaticlers I have to trim them, Butt , I hate to trim them in this weather.

I won!! I won the raffle,,
